In reply to: Was I attacked? – Blog disappeared – how to resolve? The search functionality, unfortunately, within the forum is broken. So you have to use google with the “site:wordpress.org” prefix to make it search the posts here.
I was beginning to think that the problem was with access to the database server. Glad your host figured it out.
That six pack and steak sounds great. 🙂

In reply to: I just installed, now what kind of steps for security? You can delete the /wp-admin/install.php and /wp-admin/upgrade.php from your setup. Ensure that the permissions of files and directory are not more than 644 (Own er Read/Write, Group Read, World Read) permissions.
You MIGHT have to change the /wp-content directory to slightly different permission to get caching or some plugins happy.

In reply to: Was I attacked? – Blog disappeared – how to resolve? The error you are getting seems to indicate that perhaps you have an issue with the mysql database. Have your webhost check to make sure that it’s OK.
Start with that and see if it gets you anywhere.
P.S. Do you have access to your website through SSH or CPanel? If so I can tell you how to check your database yourself.

In reply to: filter all linksThe codes lists the current hooks allowed for filtering. Find the list here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API#Current_hooks_for_filtersYou should be able to filter the content, titles and comments pretty easily. Now the sidebar..that would be a little tougher depending on what you have there.

Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Install with windows?Absolutely. You will want to install Apache, PHP and MySQL to get it working. If you are familiar with how to setup these three applications, then no problem.
If you do not, you should save yourself the hassle by downloading and installing xampp which integrates those 3 applications in one for you.

In reply to: AMAZING THE RESPONSESRunning a website isn’t for everyone. Which is why free services such as Blogger.com and LiveJournal.com flourish. They allow the novice to put up a blog and spend their time writing about issues/entries that matter to them rather than administering a site of their own.
That being said, WordPress, like any other stand alone software is good for people who know what they are doing. I’ve tried many different software from simple blogging tools to full blown CMS’ and being a Software Engineer by trade it doesn’t take me too long to figure the software out and solve any problems that I may run into.
I have no intention of defending WP or any other software. I’ve been using it successfully on my site for more than a year. Others my have had a tougher time.
A lot of times people who really shouldn’t be administering their own sites attempt to do so and run into a variety of trouble, are incapable of fixing it and blame the volunteers here for their inability in helping.
Finally, if you’ve indeed switched to another program, then good luck with that. There is no need for you to return here to vent your frustration with a software you no longer use.
Ciao..

In reply to: New theme for WP: Leone1) It’s too pink. 🙂
2) In the comments section, the Mail box is yellow with white text which cannot be seen.
3) The header makes reading any text written there nearly impossible.IMHO, a color change doesn’t warrant a new theme name..
