The good news is I figured out my error. I feel rather dumb but I’ll post what I found for other greenhorns who make the same mistake. I assumed there would be some sort of special area that would appear when I checked the CSS Classes box. That was wrong.
Make a second menu by clicking the + box next to the main menu tab- I called mine ‘social media’.
Although it does not say this in any tutorial I have found anywhere, once you’ve checked those boxes, you need to go down to the “custom links” box on the menu page and enter the URL for one of your social media accounts. When you’ve entered that information, click ‘add to menu’. Once you’ve done that- on the left side new addition you’ll see the word ‘custom’ with an arrow. Click on THAT and you’ll be able to enter the rest of the information as shown on the screenshots.
I’m guessing that the instructions don’t include this info because real developers would already know it. Perhaps you’ll want to update the instructions to tell people to put the information in the ‘custom links’ box- since CSS Classes is what’s listed, I was looking for that and since no reference was made to the ‘custom links’ box, I assumed it was for something else. Totally my mistake but others may make it too.
The bad news is that all I’ve got in my sidebar right now is a clickable link but no icon. Off to figure out where the heck to paste the icon information given in the instructions!?
I have now deleted the version that I added via the ‘add new’ feature and manually uploaded the plugin to the wp-content/plugins folder on the server. The tech said it all looked correct from her end- it should be there. It isn’t.
I cleared all cookies, tried different web browsers, rebooted- nothing.
I have combed through appearance -> widgets to see if there is some sort of widget I need to drag somewhere. Nothing.
I added recommended code to the bottom of the css.stylesheet- didn’t change anything.
Whatever ‘widget’ is supposed to appear just simply doesn’t. I have checked and unchecked and rechecked the required boxes in the ‘options’ tab on the menu a dozen times and spent quite a few hours trying to figure out what’s wrong. I’m sure it’s an operator error sort of thing but can’t for the life of me figure out what it can be!? Gah!
I am running version 3.3.1. I’m using the Genesis framework and the child theme is “Fabric”. I have already made the changes required to the “Screen Options” box. However, there is no ‘special input field’ where I can enter information. Once I added the additional check marks to CSS Classes etc.and activated. When I check or uncheck the “theme locations”, “pages” or “categories” boxes, I can see them appear or disapper on the menu area below. When I do the same thing for CSS Classes, nothing changes on the menu below. Does that make sense? It doesn’t seem to open any new field below where I can enter information.
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [uCan Post] [Plugin: uCan Post] Can't upload imagesI have version 1.0.09 installed and I am also having the photo problem. Everything works great until I go to insert the photo into the post and then I just get a white screen. I enabled the “force Javascript” option as suggested above and that did not fix it. Has anyone else figured out how to make it work? Thank you! Once I get this little issue fixed I think the plug in will dramatically enhance the new site I am building. Thanks!
