Ok, I did both, changed the two urls, exported the db inc the drop tables, did the find/replace (around 218) and reimported the db.
Tried to login and it still gives me a redirect (cleared the cache of the browser, quit it and tried to login again, no dif).

In reply to: Relocating WordPress problemsPS: I’m trying to figure out where the URL points to. Frustrating, I thought it was now pointing at http://williambowles.info bit when I changed the config to point to …/wordpress/ I get to the home page but when I try to access admin, the login page comes up but the path is:
And when I type in the login info, it just cycles back to the login page. It gets worse, as I can access posts but can’t return to the home page. It sounds like something is hardwired somewhere.

In reply to: Importing from WordPress to WordPressAs I pointed out above, I uploaded much larger files without a problem, in one case over 100 large posts. An XML file of around 400k failed, so surely it can’t be the size limit?

In reply to: Importing from WordPress to WordPressI don’t think so, as I imported 4 large categories, each over a couple of megs in size, with no problem. And yes, I’ve read it, that’s how I found out about importing, all I had to do was load the import plugin.
BTW, WP gave me a ‘Done’ msg after it had allegedly imported the xml file and it definitely adds all the Categories, a duplicate one for every time I tried to add a new one.

In reply to: Importing from WordPress to WordPressOk, one more try at trying to get an answer
I’m in the process of exporting posts from one of my sites (both WordPress using the same theme) to another and because doing it in one go is impossible because of the 24mb limit on the size that can be imported, I decided to do it one category at a time, tedious though this is.
The first four categories worked well but after that although the export seemed to work ok, creating an XML file, importing doesn’t, even though I followed the same procedure.
No error messages and no sign of the imported posts, though each time I try, WP creates duplicate categories!

In reply to: Problem with exporting from one site to anotherAs per usual, I don’t get any kind of response. How do I solve this problem please?

In reply to: Changing location of index to root directoryI have what I think is a similar problem but am not sure if I have to implement the same changes.
I installed WP in a sub-directory (WordPress) of my old HTML site and added a redirect in the old index.html to the new site (http://williambowles.info/wordpress), but this is a stopgap measure. I’d like to make http://williambowles.info go directly to the WordPress site.

Well no complaints from my host, so I assume it’s working as it should be.

I’ve changed one of the relatedness options but have no idea if it’s cleared the cache or not as my hosting co sent the code I posted above, so I’ll have to check with them.
I’ve tried quite a few of these kinds of plugins and YARPP is the only one that didn’t wreak havoc on the site (like produce completely blank pages!).
For all I know, whether they work properly or not might depend on the theme, a plugin or the like as there as so many interacting variables with a complex installation like WP and I’m not au fait with PHP and frankly just don’t have the time to mess about with it.

In reply to: How come I never get an answer about WP’s awful editor?Hmmm, so to get a decent editor I have to hack code? I think not.
I still find it amazing that a piece of software that reputedly has a million users, something so fundamental to publishing as its editor is so awful but above all time-consuming.
Things like for example:
I include an image and want to add a caption to the image but ONLY if it’s NOT centred or if the image is a link, then I can paste the caption in til hell freezes over but no go.
I really feel the whizzkids, rather than yet more ‘bells and whistles’ need to address the fundamentals first, but then perhaps they don’t write?
And why do we have to rely on the TinyMCE plugin, surely building the editor at source is preferable?

The cross-related option. I’ve deleted some categories but the posts still show up in the list of related posts, so how do I clear the cache as Yarpp has no option to empty it?

In reply to: Importing from WordPress to WordPressHi,
I did all this, exported as WordPress to WordPress and got a 16.8mb XML file which I then tried to import, selecting it from my local Mac and clicked on upload and import button. Then my machine just sat here, trying to reach the remote server by the looks of it.
And doesn’t it need an WXR file, not an XML one? Anyway, I renamed it adding the wxr tag but still no go.
