Another good idea would be to eliminate the extra click/mouse over and put the like/+1/tweet on the button.
What kind of permalink structure do you use?
I know it is not meant to work (yet) with standard parameters (=post_id) structure, it might have problems with other kind of permalinks, too.
@jamesjm – thanks for reporting this.
It is rather strange to still use the non search engines and user friendly url’s (?p=id), but you are right, it was not thought to work in that case.
I will try to fix this in the following days.
Got this, it really wasn\t WP Super Cache. A parent folder had a .htaccess blocking that 🙂
The current .htaccess was ok, but one rule from the parent folder was inherited.Sorry for wasting your time.
Re-enabled the plugin and set settings:

Since I activated Wp Super Cache according to Pingdom the site is down. Is there some kind of solution to this?

I have that check because TwentyTen and TwentyEleven themes run the code twice as these themes show the content using excerpts. Your theme probably echoes the page with the_content().
I finished working at Custom More Link Complete version 1.4.1 which completely changes the approach to edit links, making it simpler.
It should also fix the problem you mentioned.Please check the update and let me know if it works as expected.
