In reply to: [Montezuma] Menu Icon problemI wrote this a couple days ago, but something must have interrupted me before I posted…
Hi CrouchingBruin,
First, it absolutely makes my day to see your name in an email notification. It’s lovely to see you! 🙂
Second, this is by far, or seems to be, the most complex thing I’ve attempted.
The icons, when I click on the link to them, are so tiny I can’t make them out. And I don’t know how to select one. They don’t seem to have names or ways to be identified. Or, they do and I haven’t seen it.
The images must get bigger, to 24 px, when you use them, because in their present state in the list I don’t think they are more than 4 px for the grey and teal combined.
But, maybe that’s not important. Since I like the stars, I can use them for my new image file, except I don’t know how to separate them from everything else and put them into GIMP. Do I use GIMP to make the new file?
4/2/2014 ~ After looking at my menu repeatedly, I think the thing to do might be to reduce the size enough so that the stars look like little crowns. I’m going to try that. I’ve just been a little overwhelmed… I had a leak in my kitchen for years, the other day it became clear that the plasterboard on the kitchen ceiling was loose. I had it taken down so it wouldn’t fall on me, or my dinner, and that revealed that the insulation was full of water… LOL. Have to laugh. So my website has taken a bit of a backseat.
Still, today I think I’ll have time to try this.
Thank you HUGELY for your help!!!!
Karen
Hi Tobias,
Thanks for confirming that switching can cause problems. Whew! I really appreciate your confirmation. Now, I just need to know how to make the distance between columns short. I used to copy from earlier tables, but since the transfer I can’t find the relevant material.
It’s the table on this page:
http://www.grow-your-vitamins.com/homegrown-figs/Hi Tobias,
That’s my test page, so it’s different from ones that people see. When you mentioned the problem, or CrouchingBruin did, I shortly thereafter discovered that the problem has to do with the way I switch back and forth between Visual and Text, so that I can make html that will show up in my widgets. (I couldn’t get my widgets to work show pictures, so I copied your donate thing with your picture and used it as a standard to copy, not the actual picture and text, but the way it looks that makes it work.) I need to buy you another cup of coffee for that help, alone!the thing is, that in switching back and forth some weird things can happen. Really weird. Odd things get duplicated, as an example, instead of spaces being added.
I don’t use the switching approach on any of my pages that people see, so the tables people see are all lovely, in accordance with your Super plug in.
I’m almost out of time on my solar, it’s very cloudy today.
Oh, and is there a way to make certain rows contain Bold…
I forgot to put in blank rows to define categories… Bold headings would work around that.
Hi Tobias,
I don’t know how to create a temporary Admin. My brain injury is ultra irritating because it makes doing things, confusing time consuming and difficult.
My database was supposed to have been transferred, too. let me check on that. Okay, I have a LOT of tables b/c after I made them and they were wrong, I didn’t delete them. Checking more carefully, the tables I use seem okay after all, but I can’t find what I need to copy to make the new table have the first and second column close together…
Please can you tell me again?
This is my test page ~ at the bottom of the page you can see what happens if I use the shortcode from a previously created table, i.e. one I did not create today, but which was always on this site which has always been hosted by iPage … the appearance of the table is not ideal… lol
A site which was not moved from one provider to another has only two rows in it, whereas previously, when I made it, it had dozens…
So, the loss must be related to the upgrade…
Sigh. These WordPress forums are very confusing, possibly b/c I have a brain injury. I couldn’t get this to post, then I got a message saying it was deleted because it duplicated another question. But, here it is, only questions after mine are already answered, but not mine… So I’m not sure if it’s showing properly.
Sigh.
Happiness!!! What a delight to be in contact again!!!
Thank you, CrouchingBruin!
That’s really interesting about how to change the width. I have a new site that I’m just getting started, so that will be a good place to test it out.
As an aside, I read through a lot of your other posts and answers here on the WordPress forums. I didn’t entirely understand all of them, but reading them gave me a somewhat broader view which in itself can be helpful.
I’m really glad you’re so generous with your expertise!!!

OMG!!!!!
It’s that I make my html for my sidebar by doing Visual in WordPress, then switching over and copying the html…
So, I keep putting align left images in, and then I can’t understand why they won’t let me align right by adding html in the Text function.
I am SO DENSE!!!!
Whew. Somehow, I think you “inspired” me to find the answer when I posted here… Else, I think I would have kept on doing the same thing, with headache ensuing.
Maybe the thing to do would be to make the right hand margin of my text area larger… would that be something that’s possible?
I’ve decided that the sidebar thing may be impossible… I had wanted to move groups of ads to align right in the sidebar. I tried Everything I could think of or find on the web… nothing worked, except that sometimes the captions would move right, but not the picture with them.
I hate when I can’t think.
A few minutes ago the man I hire to help me with tasks like painting and gardening was here and I could not form a sentence. Just his splish splach of words came out, nearly all nouns. Sigh. We never think about how complicated talking is when we can do it… Writing is easier because it’s slower, but even it doesn’t always work…
Hi Crouching Bruin… This is so weird, I thought I posted an additional question, along with a note about the new season of The Amazing Race beginning with the Bruins marching band, which Of Course made me think of you.
But, I don’t see the additional question. Sigh.
It has to do with margins and space, both in my sidebars and at the top of my pages. I’ve been pretty stressed over a few things and that tends to exacerbate my brain injury with the result I’m even less efficient. Or, my memory and thinking capacity are…
At the top of my pages between the byline under the header picture and the stars for the menu items, there’s quite a lot of space. Some of my menus are long, so if I could reduce the empty space there would be room for one more menu item to show clearly. Maybe the stars would have to be smaller, too.
Another tip to speed up page loads is to make sure your images aren’t any bigger than they have to be. Since your main content area is 600px wide, then scaling (or resizing) your images to 600px or less would help.
I’ve been checking all my images … slow going.
However, it raises the question: how big should the header image be?
I’m using GIMP more now, rather than cropping in Word. Thanks for saying you use it. 🙂

In reply to: [Shortcodes Ultimate - Content Elements] is this an update glitch???And, no one with any tech knowledge on how to get it right seems to be paying any attention.
I redid my page, I couldn’t leave it all weirded out.
