Is it conceivable that a single host could have different security settings in each server?

You write “This is specific to your site and, right now, a server security configuration issue is the best investigation route based on the available evidence”. I don’t understand what you mean by “a server security configuration issue”. Are you saying that the problem is not with all of Fatcow’s hosting, but only with the particular physical server my site happens to be on?

I’m talking about posts that tried deactivating all plugins and trying the default theme, who all reported very similar errors. I downloaded eight threads on the subject, many of whom were “rudely interrupted” by others who said “Yes, I have the same problem.” This is only the tip of the iceberg.

Maybe one of the developers working on the next release of WordPress? I think it’s an interface issue between WordPress 3.5.1 and the average shared hosting environment.

OK, can you get another volunteer WordPress moderator to look at this? Someone who cares that such a basic feature like Media Upload should work reliably.

I’m thinking of switching hosts, but how can I know if anyone else is able to prevent this problem? In searching for a better host, I did a lot of research in the support forums and found that there are unresolved threads about the 3.5.1 Media Library on other hosts, amongst them Hostgator and even WordPress’s officially recommended Bluehost. Dreamhost has experienced this issue as well, but at least they realize it’s a problem and are trying to solve it.

Would you mind arranging for a second professional opinion on this? Can you flag this post for someone else to look at?

There’s got to be something specifac to my site that happened in the last couple of months.

How could that be if I’ve gotten plenty of such errors ever since I made the site? Also, how could any host stay in business with security filters so tight that they could host only text-only sites?

What do you mean by “the last couple of errors”? I looked in the control panel CGI and scripts error log immediately after I got the two errors that I made screen prints of. The errors I sent in the text of this thread were the only ones with today’s date. The rest of the error log (since the site was founded until yesterday evening) is in the pastebin URL that I sent you yesterday in this thread.

Where can I get the “suexec log” that contains more details?

Esmi, there’s another reason why this can’t be the problem: the complete 500-line error log that begins when I first made this site eleven months ago begins with a spate of suexec policy violations. The media upload problem has to be something else.

I’ve had the media library problem ever since I upgraded to 3.5.1, over six weeks ago. OK, my hosts server security settings may be aggravating the problem, but how could that be the only cause? In any case, I’ll get back to my host, quoting what you said.

When I saw “see suexec log for more details”, I asked my host where the “suexec log” is, but they couldn’t help me on livechat.

I made screenshots of the errors I got today when I tried to use the media library. I published them at birthdoulajerusalem.com/printscreen-500-error and birthdoulajerusalem.com/printscreen-404-error.

I figured out that the control panel error log has dates and times! Instead of giving 500 lines at pastebin.com, here are the lines from today only:

    20130417T074259: birthdoulajerusalem.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
suexec policy violation: see suexec log for more details

    20130417T074259: birthdoulajerusalem.com/index.php
suexec policy violation: see suexec log for more details

I asked my host about server permissions. They said the folder permission is 755 and the file permission is 644.

A related support thread revealed that some hosts have problems because of aggressive settings on the “mod_pagespeed” addon. The livechat representative tried her hardest on this, but in the end she had to refer it to the technical specialists in a support ticket.
