Hi. Davood, apologies for the delay in getting back to you. After doing all that I thought was needed the site still did not work and I had to call on my hosting provider to sort out some problems with the database transfer which was quickly sorted, but I had then to contact the theme provider several times over a number of weeks to sort out various problems that arose. In the end, they had to update the theme a couple of times to get it sorted.
Thanks for your help hopefully I have learned some tips that will enable me to do another transfer a bit more easily than this one.

Thanks for the reply Davood, I had looked at plugins but as this is my first time doing this I thought I would try the hard way first via Filezilla and Myphpadmin. I have already backed up my database and all my wp files from both sites. I think deleting all wp files and database from xxx.com and then uploading all wp files and database from yyy.com backups and making some minor tweaks in wp-config I should have a new xxx.com site. do you think thats the way to go? You do say at the beginning of your reply ‘YES AND NO’ so I assume you have done this already

I have an old wp site e.g. xxx.com. I have built a new wp site yyy.com. I want to move yyy.com to xxx.com so that it is now xxx.com. Is it a simple matter of deleting existing xxx.com wp files and database and installing yyy.com files and databasecom

Just to add to last post I have already created a custom full width 940px wide page for a photo gallery on my site and that was easy but that used page.php and style.css, my problem now seems to be more complex.
    Thanks,

because I want to add the directory to my already existing wp site menu. I assume I have to create a custom page to do this but if I can link to my directory.html page and directory.css from my wp site nav bar then thats the way I will go but I do not have the knowledge to do this.
    Thanks,

Thank you for your prompt reply, however I have tried to create custom page and added my html to it and the unstyled page does appear but when I try to add directory.css to it (which i can only do through a plugin) it disrupts the style.css default css.
I am fairly new to all this and what I was looking for was a step by step method to do what I am trying to do. As I said in my first post I have already spent months trying to figure this out and am just about ready to give up.
    Thanks,

I was trying to get this to work from a usb install of xampp.
Tables were not mentioned as part of set-up.
I have since removed the usb and used a C: installed version of xampp.
It worked first time as per instructions I had been following.
Happy with that for the moment but curious as to what was happening.
Possible conflict with both versions of xampp installed, e.g. on usb and on c: drive. Even though I had xampp turned off on c: when I was trying usb.
Will try and resolve later, I have spent enough time trying to get it to work on usb for the moment.
    Thanks for the reply.
