Actually, it was caused by the same thing in 7.1.14. From my dev team:
We found the problem. Wordfence 1.14 update caused the 500 error.
Then it created a redirect that basically created a redirect-loop in the htaccess file. We have removed the code in the htaccess file.
Site is back up and running
So it sounds like 7.1.14 had all kinds of problems!
Somewhat similar issues here for my website, https://bodyshepherd.com/ but the error is “Too many redirects.”

The error message we see is:
“You are running PHP 5.4.45, but Sermon Manager recommends PHP 5.6.0. If you encounter issues, update PHP to a recommended version and check if they are still there.”Before my OP here, I checked with hosting first. We use a small hosting provider that tends to be more attentive to details like this than the big discount hosts. So all good there. They pointed us to it being a plugin issue, so we’re stuck in the “their fault…no, their fault” loop between creator and host :\

In reply to: [Sermon Manager] Updated to PHP 5.6 but problem persistsThanks! I see the audio issue: we used a Public folder from Dropbox to share MP3 audio, and as of 9/1/17 they shut off Public folders. So ALL URLs site-wide no longer work.
However, that doesn’t solve the PHP problem. Dropbox or not, SM still sees a version of PHP that we are no longer running. Any thoughts on that?
I’ll keep my eye on that update – sounds like some special stuff is being done.

I’m feeling the heat, and now I’m fearful about the other sites that this form is being used. It’s been a real gem up until this past week – now it’s a disaster. Please update it!
