Remember, only you can update UM and is not automatic…

No. It will only be easier to spot what needs to change.
1. When I add a search to the member directory only the default fields are available? How do I make the custom fields available again too? I didn’t find anything in the settings.
Did you export your member directory settings and import it as indicated?
This is in a testing area so it’s not impacting the live site. Since I will need to do this on the live site as well, I want to be sure the custom fields are available in the search.
You need to set the live site under maintenance, save all MySql files just in case and also export all settings. It’s not impossible to resolve unknown issues, like you did, just by dropping off the old SQL tables replacing them with the new ones (containing the newly installed UM plugin files), then import back all your settings via Admin -> Tools.
This is the tricky part, so good luck to you.
Obviously not a great solution for updates, can I set that to false in the functions.php easily?
Changes have to be in the same file. You may comment it out as demonstrated and that could prevent the changes from being undone, but that’s, as you know, a workaround not a permanent solution.

Form Minimum 3: email, username and password.
It integrates with Ultimate Member.
It’s a paid plugin that works on WordPress, period. The fact that it “integrates” with UM may not necessarily mean that it’s compatible.
If you made a fresh UM reinstall, switched to Twenty Sixteen, deactivated all plugins and still have that empty profile page problem, then you must be in a shared environment that has a problem server side.
Some host providers also provide assistance since most of the time it’s because of their server tools or settings that a plugin like UM fails to work.
Remember, thousands of users running UM can’t be wrong.
Your second issue:
If I try and add an image to the photos sections there is no upload option.
Are you allowing your user role to see the upload field in the fields manager? Generally is everyone by default but maybe it was changed.
One more thing, what do you have in Admin panel => Permalinks?
Yes, all of it is possible, just hire a developer to help you. Thank you.
What do you have in the UM access control widget, is it on or off?
Otto, all I am saying is that this the best possible solution known to changing view permissions in bulk. They don’t have to be ‘categorized’ posts either. Imagine if all your users posts were “uncategorized”. Imagine if you had 10,000 posts / You would have to change post access one by one. With the method I showed you, you do it all at once.
That’s it.
Take it or leave it.Speaking of caching. Did you do this?
Go to Ultimate Member > Dashboard > User Cache > ‘Clear Cache’ button.
To stop caching files altogether:
Go to Ultimate Member -> Settings -> Advanced ->
Stop caching user’s profile data: ON.
Save Changes. Also, are you running a cache plugin? Did you clear browser cache?
Did you also do the conflict test like she did (the OP)?
