Hi @wyrmwyrx
I’m sorry to hear that you ran into issues with this! We appreciate you reporting this issue.
Our dev team is working on a fix right now, and we hope to have that released shortly.
In the meantime, it may be best to put Editors on the Subscriber role, as that is the default role for Business Directory Plugin.
I apologize for the inconvenience!

Hi @darrenshan
Sorry for any confusion here.
That was an old screenshot in the documentation — I apologize for that. I have now updated it.
We removed the ability to manually make listings Featured/Sticky in a release last year. Sticky listings are now tied to fee plans. In order to be a sticky listing, the listing has to be on a fee plan with this feature enabled.
You can learn more about managing fee plans here: https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/knowledge-base/manage-fees/
I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions or issues!
Hi @liznilsen
Thanks for your question. I’m sorry to hear that you ran into issues with this!
We fully understand your issue with the spamming of inboxes. I’m not sure how your customers would feel about making their email addresses public, though, so you may want to ask them about that. We recommend not doing that to help avoid spam to the email address.
This is a common problem on all sites with user-generated content, and we fight with the same issues you do regarding spam. Have you had a chance to do the standard things, like requiring registration for sending messages? That’s under Directory > Settings > Listings > Contact Form.
We also have reCAPTCHA settings that come with the plugin. Those settings are under Directory > Settings > General tab > reCAPTCHA sub-tab and the setting details are here: https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/knowledge-base/general-tab/#recaptcha
Finally, and this is our best recommendation from outside the plugin, we have recently employed WP Bruiser on our own site, and we seem to be having a good deal of success with that. You can learn more about it here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/goodbye-captcha/
Please let me know if you have any other questions or issues!

Hi Alex,
Thank you for posting here — we appreciate you letting us know about this.
We have identified this as a bug and the developers are working on a fix now. We don’t yet have an estimate on when this issue will be resolved, but hopefully soon. Thanks in advance for your patience!
Hi CJ,
I’m sorry to hear that you ran into issues with this!
I haven’t seen an issue with the template overrides working properly — you could be seeing old data on your browser.
We recommend clearing the server cache, if you have one (which is found either in your hosting settings or on your plugin settings for things like WP Super Cache and W3TC if you have them installed), as well as your client browser cache.
The best way to get uncached data on your browser is to use a Private browsing window or Incognito mode (depending on your browser). That ensures you’re seeing the latest, correct data.
As for adding the phone number to the contact field, we have the instructions for that here: https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/knowledge-base/add-phone-number-to-listing-contact-form/

In reply to: [AWP Classifieds] Support for extra fields?Hi @oguruma
Thanks for your question! Yes, AWPCP does include Extra Fields when you use our Extra Fields module. You can learn more about that here: https://awpcp.com/downloads/extra-fields-module/
I hope that helps. If there’s something else I can help you with, please let me know.
Hi @media2020
Thanks for your question. We don’t have a setting in the plugin to handle this, so this would require customization that is beyond the scope of support we can provide here. If you’d like to proceed with that and have the right skill set, you can learn more about that here: http://docs.businessdirectoryplugin.com/themes/customization.html
However, there is nothing stopping you from creating a button on any other page, or in a widget, or even on top of the directory page to link to your special create listing page. You can even hide the Create Listing button from the menu if you’d like to use a different place on the page to link to that page. Hide it by unchecking the box next to Show the “Submit listing” button. under Directory > Settings > Appearance > General Settings.
I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions or issues!
Thanks for your kind words @duquebilly — they are much appreciated 🙂
Hi @duquebilly
I’m sorry to hear that you ran into issues with this! It sounds like you have run into an issue because those file names changed in a recent release.
The .mo and .po file names should now be called business-directory-plugin-<langcode_COUNTRY>.po, for example
This article will give you the specifics on the change, in case you need to refer to it:
https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/knowledge-base/translating-bd-other-language/We’ll be changing the process of translating the plugin soon, using wordpress.org for that. You can see our progress on translations on WordPress.org here: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/business-directory-plugin/
Thanks for letting me know! If there’s something else I can help you with, please let me know.
Hi @pmn578z
Thanks for your questions. To keep things easy to read, I have provided answers to your questions inline below.
1- How can I easier for a listing owner to go into his/her listing without needing to search for his/her listing. For this, we recommend setting up a separate page that will allow users to log in and edit their listings. Create the page — call it something like “Admin access” or whatever makes the most sense for your site, then put this shortcode on the page: [businessdirectory-manage-listings]. Users will then be able to log in and manage their listings.
In the latest release, we have also added the Manage Listings button to the Quick Search area on the main page of the directory. You can learn more about that in our Knowledge Base here: https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/knowledge-base/how-can-users-manage-their-own-listings/
2. When a message/comment is written in the message box at the bottom of the listing, how the listing owner is supposed to receive it. No email is received upon that.
If you have Contact forms enabled for Business Directory to use to contact the owner of the listing, the plugin can use EITHER the author’s email associated to the listing (the WP user) or the email actually included in the listing data (the listing email).
You can change this setting under Directory > Settings > E-Mail tab > General Settings sub-tab.
I hope that helps.

I’m sorry to hear that you ran into issues with this!
I am wondering if a full conflict test would tell us the problem. Let’s try this:
1. deactivate all other plugins aside from BD after doing a full backup of your site (NOTE: we recommend setting up a staging site for future testing to avoid disrupting your live site)
2. switch to TwentyNineteen (or similar default WordPress theme) theme under Appearance > Themes
3. verify that the problem no longer exists (this should work perfectly – you may need to clear your cache)
4. switch back to your current theme and TEST for the problem
5. If there is a problem there, then the theme is the issue. If no problem, continue to #6
6. turn on your other plugins one by one and TEST each time you turn a plugin on. That will identify the problem.

In reply to: [AWP Classifieds] Ad excerpt display instead of first caracters of the adThanks for your question.
That’s something we can consider for future development, but not something the plugin allows for today.
We have some customization documentation that may help you here, though: http://awpcp.com/documentation/customization-guide/
I have asked the developer to respond if there is an easy way to do this, and I will put that response here once I hear back.

In reply to: [AWP Classifieds] Free Ad listing featureHi @nekorin04
Thanks for your question. That’s something we can consider for future development, but not something the plugin allows for today. We’re definitely considering it for inclusion, but we don’t have a specific timeframe when it will be available at this time.
