Found the problem. It was a simple chmod problem of the folders. It was set at 751 instead of 755 resulting in plugins not showing up. But it doesnt help doing it on the folder, need to go through every subfolder and do it there also.
Even when activating a plugin i need to do this. So weird, must be some server configuration thats changed.

Tried doing a rollback to 3.6 and same thing, so its not something to do with the 3.7 itself. So weird. But it all started with the update though.

Its not relevant at all, the plugin is failing on install and its not only Nextgen, its every plugin and i cant install manually either.
Cant make it work. Made the changes to qtranslate.php but its not showing up in plugins in wp-admin. Uploaded through FTP. Installing through wp-admin fails on install.
