I am in the process of doing that. One last question, can this be caused by a caching plugin? I have just disabled WP Fastest Cache on keptlight.com while I was grasping at some solutions.
Cemal
Thank you for the detailed response, @macmanx. I DID disable Wordfence on my site and it produced no difference. And, my hosting company insists that JetPack is not blocked and there are no blocked IP errors in the logs. The odd thing, of course, is the third site, testbed.biz which functions fine running as an addon domain to keptlight.com main account in its own folder.
When I copy the URL for XMLRPC from your snippet, on my browser it runs fine. But again, running it as a curl command may make a difference which will be above my level of knowledge.
Excuse my lack of knowledge of the finer points in these matters, is the XMLRPC block put on a server, account, or domain level? If my account is blocked, should it also not block the testbed.biz domain? If this is done at the domain level, the odd behavior can be explained of course.
I feel like the proverbial customer caught between two finger-pointing sides with very little recourse. Maybe it is time to look for a new hosting company and an alternative to JetPack.
Thanks again,
Cemal
Perhaps not important but here is another piece of information:
- I have three sites on the same server, keptlight.com, cemalekin.com, testbed.biz
- The first two have WordPress installed in a subfolder and I cannot “View Site” from JetPack dashboard for either one of them and they both show that they are not connected to JetPack
- The third site, testbed.biz is installed at the domain root and it is connected to JetPack without errors. And, I can “View Site” in the JetPack dashboard
This may be a pure coincidence or WP being installed in a subfolder may affect how well JetPack can connect to a site. The testbed.biz also has more plugins for testing purposes.

OK, after a long drag, I am back again. My hosting company assures me that the problem is not related to mod_security and I know that XMLRPC is functioning as expected. Where do we go from here?
I have done the routine steps of disconnecting and reconnecting, testing the functioning of XMLRPC by loading it and looking at the response, double-checked my Wordfence white list, and the JetPack IPs are there unless you have added new ones.
There has to be a more fail-safe approach to offering JetPack, this is the third or the fourth time I am running into a similar problem.
Here is the relevant section from the e-mail response I got from the hosting company:
… unfortunately we experienced a large targetted attack last week from what has since been determined as spoofed Jetpack IPs. Because of this absusive actiivty, our firewall immediately blocked the IPs which had since generated the errors you faced. Again, we have since corrected this and put in measures to avoid similar problems in the future.
I have personally reviewed your accounts, and the errors you are providing in the screenshot are not generating from our servers. This looks to be directly from WordPress.com’s servers. Typically how JetPack operates is they will attempt connection a limited number of times and then generate a “soft” fail. This prevents their servers from continually trying to access a website that is non responsive. Eventually (unfortunately, we do not have the exact timeframe) they reattempt and should connections resolve will begin to operate normally.

Thank you, @macmanx, I have a better understanding now. The connectivity seems to be particularly important for some features. Since I am not using them, that’s why I have not noticed anything missing. I would still like to resolve the matter and will post again once I hear from my hosting company.
Thank you,
Cemal
I’m going to ask something out of curiosity. If I am getting the statistics, and the other JetPack functions are working on the site what exactly does not being connected mean? As I said, this is a curiosity question while I wait to hear from my hosting company. If there were no notices on the JetPack/My Site telling me “The site cannot be accessed” I would not have missed anything. What am I missing?
Thank you,
Cemal
Thank you @darnelldibbles, I forgot to state that I checked for XMLRPC connectivity, and I tried it just now and I get the expected response from it as you will see in the screen capture below:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/i7xccgnt3l7kvub/xmlrpc.jpg?dl=0
I will check with my hosting company to see if they disabled that or the mod_security, I think that may also interfere.
I will report what I find. But I have JetPack functionality, I am not sure what I am missing.

I have reached a compromise by adding a project category called Portfolios and adding a description text. It does not display in the content area, bummer! But better than just a category title and a bunch of images. The current “Portfolios” menu option will display this page.
The problem is not resolved, just settled on a compromise solution. My comments on the portfolio option of JetPack remains. I hope they will get receptive eyes and ears to improve this feature for everyone.
Cemal
Well, I had to remove the CSS section because it was showing on all the pages. Not a solution after all, semi or full.
Thanks,
Cemal
@darnelldibbles, thank you for the CSS snippet. It does and does not work, but a semi-solution. I left the CSS after I replaced the text pieces so you can take a look. Two problems remain:
1. The title does not appear where it is supposed to, if you look at other pages you will see what I mean
2. Adding text content via CSS is very cumbersome, to put it mildly. This feature needs more user input and modifications in order to provide real value if you ask me.Interestingly, if I put the “projects” into a category called “Portfolios” and display the project category, the title appears where it is supposed to. But, the entry content is still missing.
Thank you for your assistance,
Cemal
Thank you @kokkieh, I have a better idea now but not a complete one. I did import the contents, at least some contents from the live site to the staging site but they have separate JetPack connections as I need to switch in the WordPress.com JetPack page from one site to the next to see their stats. But, perhaps the post IDs are creating the confusion. I don’t know how JetPack counts a visit to testbed.biz to see one post as a count to the same post on a different site. If the stats are merged that is not based on an action I took, I don’t think.
I will wait until I move the new site design to the live site in a couple of weeks. Thank you for the explanation.
Cemal
Thank you, Emre.

In reply to: [Genesis Portfolio Pro] Does this work with Magazine Pro themeI am glad someone else asked the almost exact question a day later and got a reply to visit the permalinks page. I did that and saved the settings without making any chances and the portfolio seems to be working.

In reply to: [Firelight Lightbox] Translation Editors wanted!@ravanh I have translated quite a few pieces with help and guidance from the Turkish translating group. There is a little left which needs getting phrase translations. I will get back to it. I think it is over 90% done!
