Hello, Zotpress is wonderful! however when I do

    [zotpress nickname=”grouplib” author=”O’Regan”]

in a wordpress page it returns nothing. Apparently the apostrophe in the name fails the search. It works perfectly otherwise.

    HELP!
    thanks very much, Kevin

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Unfortunately I can confirm this is a problem. Tested with an “O’Connor” ref in my library, and with various forms of the apostrophe (O'Connor, O’Connor, O'Connor, O‘Connor, O+Connor, O Connor). All return “No items found”.

Workaround for you might be to use item keys; or perhaps you could add a tag ORegan so that you can use [tags="ORegan"].

yes but i would have to individually go through my whole zotero library and individually create a new tag for each author!!

    not a solution!

I’m surprised by this problem, since I read somewhere in the forum that tags with apostrophes work!

    Hello,

I had the same problem in Spanish speakers context, most people use 2 surnames, and it’s almost impossible to guess, sometimes we use 1, other times 2, other times with a “-” or without, etc., so it always will be incomplete, since you have to write exactly the surname as is listed in zotero.

So listing authors by the code is not a good option in our case, the “code search” don’t do it fine.

BUT I found the search bar works excellent, with only a part of the surname it will list correctly the references.

So, one possible workarround is to set a searchbar with a pre-determined search. A code that shows me the results of Corredor, in this example.

    For example:
    [zotpressLib userid=”XXXXXXXX” type=”searchbar” pre-search=”Corredor”]

And loading the page, shows all the results, without the need of writing. and maybe hide the searchbar itself, showing only the results, replacing this way the default references listing by author.

That would be optimal for us and would solve the problem of exact writing of the authors, the apostrophes, dashes, etc.

I explained that some time ago, let’s hope it would be reconsidered:

    hello fellipecorr,
Your solution is interesting but it does not really help me since i want to generate bibliographies without people typing things in.

Also: I can’t seem to make your code with “pre-search” work. I have Zotpress version 7.1.5 but in the Help file there is no description of the item “pre-search”. Where can i find documentation for this?
    Thank you in advance, Kevin

It was more like a feature request. If it is implemented I would update several pages in my site:
    https://grupliec.com/

If you see the “qui som” (who we are) there is the whole team, with one team page for person, and the reference list. This list unfortunately is incomplete for the problem I told you.

If the request is accepted and implemented, I would update the code in every person’s page asap.

@johnkevinoregan Yes, workarounds are always ugly and inelegant. It would indeed be preferred if this were fixed since it’s clearly a bug. But I’m not sure how soon we can expect updates from @kseaborn in these strange times.

In the meantime, the most useful workaround depends on your scenario. If you are creating a relatively stable bibliography, then adding a tag to the items to be cited, or putting all desired items in a collection on the Zotero end, shouldn’t be too hard; and you can then have ZotPress select and display the items using the collection or tag. Since the web page you linked to seems to be of that kind, I suggested this.

Alternatively, if you find yourself needing to cite individual publications in more dynamic contexts (e.g. while writing blog posts), it is a bit more of a pain as you’d need the item key for items that ZotPress doesn’t resolve due to this author name bug. But even then, the item key is not too hard to find in the ZotPress backend.
