You updated on 7th Feb your app to connect via application passwords. Now when logging in via android app for the 1st time, it asks for a username and password and not application password. Next it creates one itself and when doing a new post, it won’t post it saying incorrect username or password and simply add the image to media library ! Whereas in the same setup you can choose any existing already uploaded image including the one uploaded in previous prompt and update your post and it will work. This is a big time bug which you need to fix and it seems your app is still not ready to be connected via application password system. Old version prior to 7th Feb release is working like a charm FYI .

Hi @simpoo, thanks for sharing your experience and sorry to hear the Jetpack android app hasn’t worked smoothly.

Now when logging in via android app for the 1st time, it asks for a username and password and not application password.

The app should ask you to connect your account, and then take you to the next step to approve the connection. Is this flow not happening on your end?

This is indeed the flow but what happens next is the bug.
Suppose i wish to update an existing post with a new featured image, we upload the image, it goes to wordpress media gallery on the website (and we can see it by loggin into wordpress or even from your app) but it never attaches itself to the post and exists with username/password error. Now if there was a username password error, we would’nt have the image uploaded to media library which it does but it cannot update the post with that image.
Now what if i go an extra step and 2nd time i try to use an image from wordpress media library ? It updates !

So this is a bug which your team needs to address ASAP.

You can see this screenshot – i’m logged in – post is posted it says your post is uploaded / post updated and them bam ! no featured image and this error comes up . If the credentials were wrong – why would it let the post be created or media be uploaded ? The issue is ONLY featured image setup as it won’t post that on the post , newly added or edited. Tried this across 4 different servers as we have multiple websites across multiple locations on various panels like directadmin / cyberpanel / virtualmin and all have same issue. Cache was disabled while checking this.

    Hi @simpoo,

    Thanks again for reporting this.

We’ve confirmed this was a regression in the recent Android update (26.5) affecting self-hosted sites using Application Passwords. Specifically, setting a newly uploaded image as a featured image from the Post Settings panel can fail, even though the upload itself works.

This is not a general app failure, but a specific bug in that flow. It has already been fixed by our mobile team and the fix will be included in the next Android release planned in the coming days.

As a temporary workaround, you can insert the image into the post content first and set it as featured from there.

If you have any follow-up questions, feel free to reply to our email and we’ll continue from there.

    Best regards,
    Alin
