WP 1.2, Statistics

Word Press Statistics (zip file)
This is a port to WP 1.2 as a plugin and significant improvement based on the code from GamerZ.
It features some pretty significant changes and improvements for template integration. Installation instructions are included. It does operate differently than the release by GamerZ, it probably is not compatible with WordPress 1.0.x. Although I’m sure it could be with a few tweaks to the code.
The original forum for discussion is here.
I do not currently have a demo online, my website has not been upgraded to WP 1.2 yet, I’ve been testing it locally. Hopefully in the next day or two, I’ll have a sample site online for people to check out.
If were lucky there won’t be too many issues with it so people can hit the ground running with it when WP 1.2 is released this week.

Heh, yeah. Plugins will need some updating for 1.3. If I had it running, I’d release a compatible version. 😉
But from what Beel says, sounds like it might be alright – at least for a while, once wp-settings is updated.I feel proud to have been linked to. 🙂 Two things. I’ve been looking for something to put the number of visits or views to the comments of a particular post ie how many times the comment button is clicked. I know there is a hack out there but I’ve tried it and just keep getting errors and it comes with excess baggage as most of the stats it comes with are in this plugin anyway. I think it may also be conflicting with a plugin, quite possibly this one. So what’s the possibility of adding that in to here. Also how about a word count for comments. I have a feeling that the comment word count on my blog is probably 3 or 4 times the post word count and a combination of the two would give a better idea of the blog’s overall size. Don’t shoot me.
Hello i just followed the intrucctions and i get this:
The requested URL /wordpress/stats/ was not found on this server.
I have been looking arround and everything is like the readme says, what im missing??
AitorYou may be. If you post a link, I should be able to figure it out pretty quick.
Make sure your .htaccess file is done correctly, the plugin is enabled (in wp-admin), and the code has been inserted into index.php correctly.
Again, with a URL, it should be pretty easy for me to figure out what is wrong.Well as long as they are blanks then. 🙂 Er, actually I think you’re over-complicating the first part. I think if people want all that kind of info there is a “visitors stats” plugin they can use. Personally I get all that info from my ISP page by page if I want it including links etc. No, all I wanted was if someone visits my blog and maybe finds a particular post interesting they may go on to view the comments by clicking the button. They may not leave a comment so you would see from the click count that there were, say, 50 views but only 30 comments. I have no interest in people who have my feed in something like FeedDemon cuz they can view posts and comments without ever coming near the site apart from the first time to get the feed addy. Not that I have any problem with them but for this I’m only interested in people who actually come on-site and click buttons. As for the comment word count I just thought it was a good idea and I’d throw it at you. I don’t use threads and I don’t mind waiting. Actually if it’s only counting the first comment in a thread it still giving you better info than nothing at all.
Now I’m going to have to be careful here cuz I don’t want to put too many links in and get spammed. As I couldn’t get it up and running I’ve erased the hack zip file I had. I’m pretty sure I either got it from or via the MtDewVirus site. I know MaxT uses it and this is the call you have to put into the index.php file:-
\<?php show_post_count($post->ID, $before=”(Visited “, $after=” times)”); ?>\
If you want the site addys I’ll go get ’em put they are both regulars so you may already know them. On top of that there was a lot of stuff added to the my-hacks.php file which went against my better judgement as I’m hooked in to the plugins idea. If you need more let me know but it’s like 3:45am here and I’m thinking of going to bed.I see what your getting at with the clicking a link thing. However, take a look at:

You can view the comments that way as well as clicking the “comments” link on a given post. See where the discrepancy is? I suppose it would provide some additional info, however it wouldn’t be too accurate. Maybe you would like:
http://wordpress.org/support/10/5584
It gives you some information on the traffic on your site – hit wise. I have a version I modified, which I call wp-traffic.php. I set it to not count web crawlers. I can e-mail you that version if you wish.
MtDewVirus didn’t write that, I don’t think. I’ll see if I can find it.

It should be possible to get the comment word count for each post, that can be embedded next to posts. As well as a overall word count on all comments.
I’ll look into it more once J3r0m3’s stats page is working correctly. I’d like to weed out that bug first.
For now though, MtDewVirus does have plugins that will provide the comment word count functionality:
http://wordpress.org/support/10/5425Hi Unoamigo/Ryan
Just to let you know that the link goes to a txt page which has the code jumbled up.
Will breeak it up first and get back to you pronto.
You guys might be resting already, which might be a good thing, since i can unscramble it while you are asleep.
Catch you later.Carry on with J3rom3’s bug. It’s more important. Mine works. I have a distinct impression if I didn’t actually get it from MtDrewVirus I went through a link there. I’ll have a look round as well. I obviously haven’t gone to bed yet. Oh, and I wasn’t thinking of an individual post-comments word count. Just an overall count in the general stats at the top of the stats main page. I’ll check those links you’ve given me.
Tested out the modified statistics.php
Still cannot work.
Stats still do not show the most recent post.
Same goes for the restI wimped out and reverted to 1.2 and it fixed everything. I have edited my post above.
Ha ha. 😆 Comment word count totally sorted. For me anyway, I don’t know about threads. I already use MtDewVirus’ comment plugger so now I’ve uploaded his comment word count plugin but instead of putting the call into my index.php I’ve added it to the “list” in your statistics.php and voila. Another good reason to point people at my stats pages. Thanks for the help. I’ll go search out that hack now. 🙂
Oh I forgot. Yes please do email your version wp-traffic.php to stuart(at)thebombsite.com whenever it’s convenient. I did spot the little “naming” controversy in the other thread. Catch ya later.
yup, its not a zip file at all. Its statistics.txt
I put the new file in my test site.
I dun wanna risk it, cos i am so highly capable of screwing up big time.
=PArggg, stupidness:
http://www.frankentosh.com/temp/statistics.php.zip
That here is a zip file, not the crazy txt file. For some reason the link stuck at the .txt file after I changed it. (I noticed the .txt file was loading bad, so I changed the link – but I guess it didn’t fully take effect)
Lets see how that one goes. 😉lol
It’s all good. I was ultra confused earlier. I stopped keeping track of the thread for about 6 hours and wow, there were a billion posts. Took me a while to sort them all out. 😉
I feel a little bad though, the bulk of my attention is focused on J3r0m3’s little problem. It’s got be a little tongue tied, hopefully we can hash through the singapore, texas, mountain time issue. 😉
Feel free to keep on kicking input in, all input is greatly appreciated. I’m sure GamerZ feels the same way. Probably glad his hack is living on and being significantly updated without him having to put in any effort. I’d be anyways…
