Some more information: OK, I deleted new item in widget area and correct sidebar came back . . . so the problem is that I want more than one heading on shop sidebar – just as on blog sidebar there is “recent posts” and “categories”

On the shop page I want to have a sidebar that has a heading of “product categories” and then I want one for “titles” or “artist names” (etc)

    Hi AndyGang

Sorry I wasn’t able to reach out sooner. Have you made any progress resolving the above challenge?

    Thanks

    Hey! Hello!

Woosidebar is working fine but only allows one heading “Product Categories”.

I hope “heading” is the correct term. It’s the text above any column for links (to categories).

OK so what I managed was to add a new category heading to the woosidebar “artists” (a listing of artist names who created the products). That DID turn up on the woosidebar BUT it is listing the blog post categories. NO! I want to list the artists’ names!

Do you perhaps want to try a different option? I really like:

    http://jetpack.me/support/widget-visibility/

If you’re installing Jetpack for the first time, once connected to WordPress.com, go to Jetpack > Settings and bulk de-activate all modules, then activate only the ones you want, in this testing case, just Widget Visibility. Perhaps just try it out.

This is still not working for me. Installed jetpack and all it shows is a category heading for “Artists” on product page but the scroll down menu shows monthly archive (from blog page).

The problem is that under this heading “Artists” I want to access product tags that will include artist name (the maker of the product). I am able to get the heading “Artists” on the product (or shop) page, but it always reverts to monthly archive or whatever NOT the artists’ names.

Try going to Appearance > Widgets > Sidebar. If you don’t need widgets like Recent Articles anywhere on your site then you can delete them. If you do need those widgets on blog pages then you can hide them on tag pages.

    1. Open a widget, for example the Recent Articles widget.
    2. Click Visibility next to Save.
    3. Change condition to Hide If: Taxonomy : All product_type pages

You’re not getting the basic drift of my inquiry (or perhaps I’m misunderstanding you). I don’t want to hide or make visible certain categories, I want to create a new category heading that will appear only on the product page – the heading of “Artists” – the names of the person who produced the items available in the shop. As of now the only category on the shop page is “Product Categories” and when I try to start a new heading (which does appear on shop page) the list below heading reverts to blog categories.

I want to create a new category heading that will appear only on the product page – the heading of “Artists” – the names of the person who produced the items available in the shop.

All other things aside. Do you have a widget that can display this content?

The woo sidebar widget and sidebar widget for Vantage theme.

I’ve re-read the thread. Earlier you said:

OK so what I managed was to add a new category heading to the woosidebar “artists” (a listing of artist names who created the products). That DID turn up on the woosidebar BUT it is listing the blog post categories. NO! I want to list the artists’ names!

Going on that part, you don’t really have a widget that can display the artists names. You’re saying the problem is that it’s displaying the blog categories instead of the categories you want to display.

So do you not just need a categories widget that can filter. A widget that’ll let you choose what to display?

So assuming all the artists are in one category, could we perhaps try a widget like this?

I’ll try that and get back to you. Thanks for your help so far . . .

OK, I did that. Put the category widget on product sidebar. It has a “Artists” heading but all it will show (in scroll down) is one of my blog category lists. I want to customise the “Artists” list to include artist’s names which are in the tags for any given product. So this is still not working.

    Thanks for trying.

I think we’re back at my earlier question of whether or not you have a widget that can pull the information you want. I’m happy to help but let’s focus on that. So it’s not so much a Vantage challenge but rather a challenge of finding a widget that can pull specific WooCommerce data for you.

The widget I suggested above will only be able to list WooCommerce categories.

Here is a plugin that can display products by tags:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/woocommerce-display-products-by-tags/

Here is a page that you can continue your search on:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=woocommerce+tags

I, unfortunately, don’t yet see a plugin that can do what you’re asking. A normal category widget will work, like the one I suggested earlier, if you move your artist names from tags to WooCommerce categories instead.
