• I have WP1.2 running I want to upgrade to Wp1.2.1 I read the simple instruction’s but I just want to make sure I do it write.
I copy all Wp1.2.1 files into my present WP1.2. folder replacing all the files and then I go to /wp-admin/upgrade.php?
    Is that the correct step?

  • Sort of.
    Backup important files first.
    Delete the old files
    Upload the new files.
    Then do the upgrade.php

Well I’ve tried updating and just went back a step. I was having problems with logining in (see http://wordpress.org/support/3/13926) so since the 1.2.1 addresses some login issues I thought I’d give it a try.
I have backed up data, deleted files, uploaded 1.2.1 files, run upgrade.php.
Now when I try to log in nothing happens. It just loops back to the login page. I tried getting a new password, but nothing changes.
This is the exact same problem I am having in my prior post, only now I can’t log in at all – not even at home.
    I need some help ASAP.

I have the exact same problem!

Have you deleted both your browser cache and cookies ?

Yup. Just tried it again, in fact. Same thing.
(BTW, the link in my earlier post doesn’t seem to go anywhere. For details search for “Login Loop” or look for posts in my name.)

Could we have a link ? If you allow people to register, we could test it ?

Ah, now there’s the rub. I haven’t allowed people to register, and now I can’t get in to change that.
    My site is at http://www.tjameswhite.com/blog

This is very similar to the problem I had before with the login loop – I had that partially solved with the code here: http://www.sexygirlgeek.com/share/wp-login.phps
That got WordPress logining in and out at home properly, but never solved the “remote” login issue. That’s why I decided to try the 1.2.1 edition.
Any thoughts on replacing the wp-login.php with her code? (Or, obviously other suggestions.)

Anything is good right now πŸ™‚

    Podz: thanks for the faq.
Here’s the results (following the faq numbering):

    1. No change
    2. No change
    3. Running 1.2.1 so line is already corrected
    4. No change (but I did manage to use phpMyadmin successfully for the first time- thanks Podz!)
    5. Did not try. (Mostly because I didn’t understand. I don’t use a secure site…. decided to save for last, if needed.)
    6. Success! I can log back in and out sans problem. Tomorrow I will see if I can login remotely (i.e.: from work). If not, I’ll be back.

Sexygirlgeek gets The Big Nod for her login file. Michiganders rescuing Michiganders, thanks.

    More sucess!
I can login and out remotely as well as at home. I’m not sure what’s different, but it’s finally working.
For the record, WordPress 1.2.1 and Sexygirlgeek’s wp-login.php solved all of my problems.

Do you actually have to run upgrade.php? In the WP Dev blog it says “all you need to do is overwrite the WordPress files and folders.” I just overwrote the changed files and it seems to be working fine.

    1.2 to 1.2.1 – no need to run upgrade.php

Thanks, was just checking – post 2 of this thread got me slightly worried. Perhaps it needs an edit – I get the feeling from a few threads that people are causing themselves grief by runnning upgrade.php after changing from 1.2 to 1.2.1.

    It wouldn’t actually matter.
Upgrade checks the db structure against what it should be, and if it’s all good, then it’s not really doing anything.
