I tried to install the update (to 2.6) simply by clicking “install update” but it always froze at “unpacking…”.

So I downloaded it manually and went through this page option.

Then I received a message saying:

The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.

I have now deleted the previous version to do clean-slate install but the same thing all the way.

    Any suggestions?

It seems that your hosting provider is limiting the size of the files you can upload to your site. I would recommend that you contact them and ask them if it’s possible to remove that limit.

In the meantime, you will need to install the plugin manually as explained here:

    Thank you, Jeremy!

Forgot to mention that I’m still developing locally, using XAMPP.

Since the initial posting, I located php.ini and found that XAMPP’s original upload_max_filesize was 2M.
Am leaving this as is for now. Still pleased to learn the cause of the problem and potential ways to solve it.

Very happy that WordPress has many alternative ways to install plug-ins.

    Thanks heaps. 🙂
