Hmm, no one else has reported missing CSS, and I’d expect they would since that’s pretty major.
That screenshot shows you uploaded the file, where did the file come from? The main download link at https://wordpress.org/plugins/slate-admin-theme/ or somewhere else?
What version of WordPress are you using? Slate is 4.0+ only. It’ll look wrong pre-4.0.
I am using the most current version. I went to that site and downloaded it. Very strange.
I just released version 1.0.4 an hour or so ago. You might try downloading and installing that. Or, maybe, search and install the plugin through the WordPress admin instead of uploading the file.
Really not sure why you got that error, strange indeed.
I just tried the new version on two sites. Same result. I couldn’t find it in the directory.
Maybe WPEngine blocks it?

I just uploaded the .zip to a couple generic WP installs and it worked fine.
If you go to yourwordpressinstall/wp-admin/plugin-install.php?tab=search&s=slate it should be like the second result.

And no luck installing through the admin either with the address I sent?
I’m not familiar with WPEngine. If they’re all WP though, it doesn’t seem like they’d block something like that…
