    Hi There
Great plugin, but we found the translated installation (that is, with phrases translated) doesn’t send any notification emails to the commenters. They get only the first subscribe/unsubscribe email, but then, no more. Also the admin/autor doesn’t got the “new comment” email -he gets it only with the option for moderation activated.

We have checked this situation without error from our part: we have a dedicated server with two WordPress installations, one in english, one in spanish -and the Apache, PHP, mySQL, etc configs are the same for both. The english WP install works nice with all details related to WPdiscuz: it sends the notification emails, alerts the autor/admin, etc. But the spanish WP installation with the WPdiscuz translated phrases, doesn’t work, as we described.

You should check this, as this is not the first issue related to your translation features. Thanks

    Hi jalvac,
wpDiscuz translation issues were only with not saved changed words. We have never faced translation problem with emails. This is something strange. We’re going to check all email functions on Spanish translation too.

Thanks, we’ve checked also our WP PHPmail sending method, and all is working fine with the system and other plugins that send notifications.

We’ve changed also the PHPmail method to SMTP (with the info available in http://labs.jdmdigital.co/hosting/wordpress-email-smtp/ or via a plugin like WP MAIL SMTP).

What is the sending email domain? What is the receiving email domain which fails?

Just because it works once in one place is not proof that it will work in all other places. That’s a false premise.

Hi Jason, the WP installation is hosted on futuremusic-es.com, and we’re trying to receive in sonicplug.com, telopillo.com, gmail and more: the result is no notifications from WPdiscuz are received -only the first subscribe e-mail when a commenter starts the discussion. Thanks

But what is your From address, the Sender address, that is not working? wordpress@futuremusic-es.com ?

    Thread Starter jalvac

    (@jalvac)

The sender address currently is info@sonicplug.com -we have configured SMTP sending with TSL to avoid spam filtering.

    Your SPF record:

    sonicplug.com. 21599 IN TXT "v=spf1 +a +mx -all"

    1. I’m not 100% sure on the ‘-all’ ? Google says not to do it, but that might be specific to their domain.

Is the SMTP server you use smtp.sonicplug.com ?

    Thread Starter jalvac

    (@jalvac)

Thanks Jason, and no, the SMTP server is mail.sonicplug.com

But what I can’t understand is why the commenters get the first subscribe confirmation email…

    All the best

I also have changed -all to ~all in the domain SPF text record…

There is a ‘spam score’ that gets assigned. The more things that violate the rules, the higher the score. It’s possible that the first subscribe email is under the threshold.

Your SPF and SMTP server appear correct. I too am stumped now! Perhaps it is an issue with the plugin.

Thanks Jason -in fact, we needed to change PHPmail for SMTP to get emails delivered to Gmail. But we don’t have more details to inspect. What tool did you use to check the spam score? Thanks

PHPMail defaults to the localhost SMTP server with no authentication. That actually should have worked because your have +a in your SPF and your A record would have also been the SMTP server.

If I were you I would install Email Log just to make sure the emails are being sent!

    (@jalvac)

Thanks Jason, we will check the server logs, as we should have the email log already installed. And we’ll wait also for the reply from the WPdiscuz developpers.

    All the best!

Oops, too many unsolved problems: we checked the mail log (tail -f mail.log and tail -f mailerror.log) and we can see that only the first subscription email is fired.

We can see in the logs that WPdiscuz is not triggering any notification emails after subscription. And also, the admin/post author is never noticed about the comments. By the way, if we deactivate WPdiscuz, the admin/post author is correctly notified.

We have also checked potential plugin incompatibilities of WPdiscuz with our other plugins, deactivating all but WPdiscuz -the situation is the same, no notifications for anybody.

Great plugin, but this makes it totally useless for us… Thanks anyway.

    Hi jalvac,
We’ve tested wpDiscuz with 8 different language WPs, and on 3 different hosting services. We didn’t find any issue with email notifications.
Now we’re debugging whole wpDiscuz script. We’ll update all results very soon.
