Top Posts Category Filter / Top Posts Limit Question

My website makes use of a lot of ‘menu’ pages, which I don’t want to include in the Top Posts widget output. To exclude them, I implemented the category filter suggestion found here.

Which works great. However, it seems that even though the excluded pages are not displayed, they still count against the 10 post maximum. Currently the widget is outputting only 6 items

Any easy suggestions on how to retrieve enough (more) posts/pages to maintain a consistent output?
