Since July 15th and later postings my thumbnails no longer expand to their full size when clicked. All posts prior to the 15th still work like normal. I checked and WP IS 5.2.2 and that last update was a few weeks prior to the issue. I am trying to find a log of when the Theme was last updated, but haven’t found that yet.

Does that sound like a bug in the theme or did something change in the configuration to make the thumbnails upload to the page as thumbnails? I checked in the media container and those photos are still their regular large size.

Any idea’s if this is a bug or did I do something stupid?

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

I disabled all the plug ins and the thumbnails are still small pics that wont expand. I am using Twenty 2017 theme. I installed the suggested plug in and it wants me to upgrade PHP to the version 7 fork. I am using the most current v5.6 of that fork. I am not a web guru and would hate to kill the site if v7 breaks it.

This info from the heath-check app looks like it may be pertinent to the issue, but that would make me wonder why the older posts still work, just nothing after the 14th of July.

Please discuss with your hosting provider about those disabled components.

I figured it out. Seems that the Link To “Media File” was changed to None on posts after the 14th. Not sure how that happened and it seemed to stick that way for every other post afterward. I had to manually go back to each thumbnail in all the posts after the 14th and set it back to Media File from None and they all work. And it is staying that way for new posts. Geez.. Its resolved!

    Thanks for everyone’s help!
