Using Google Site Kit on my WordPress site. I connected Analytics, tag manager and search console, but Search Console says it doesn’t have permission. In Search console the verification process fails saying that Tag Manager is installed incorrectly. I verified that the tags have been published and are working. One is a Google Ad conversion tag and I can see in Google Ads that it is properly tracking. I disconnected tag manager and reconnected. I uninstalled Site Kit and re-installed and so far nothing has fixed the tag manager issue. Is there a bug or glitch that is causing search console to think that Tag Manager is incorrectly installed.

Thanks for reaching out @louiseaw. I’d be happy to help you out with this to ensure Site Kit setup is complete. In order to do so, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
    2. After you uninstalled and re-installed Site Kit, is the plugin working as expected (independent of any issues you see from Search Console directly with your Tag Manager verification)? I ask because if so, we can then troubleshoot any Tag Manager issue specifically.

Note also that I checked your site both manually and and using the tagassistant.google.com service. From doing so I can see that there is a Tag Manager snippet placed on your site, which is working as expected. This also contains the Google Ads tag you referenced.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Thanks for sharing your Site Health information @louiseaw. Note that regarding not being able to verifying Search Console ownership via Tag Manager, you can verify Search Console ownership of a property using Site Kit. The plugin does go through verification for users when setting up, using a HTML file to verify ownership.

I’ll also perform some checks on my side, to see the expected behavior when using Tag Manager placed via Site Kit. I’ll check whether I can verify ownership using this method. While I’m doing so, can you confirm that Site Kit is working as expected? You may also wish to confirm that Site Kit has verified ownership for your property via a HTML file.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. I’ll let you know after I check Tag Manager verification also on some test sites, likely early next week.

Thanks for your patience on this. I checked and in my case I was able to verify Search Console ownership using Tag Manager when inserted via Site Kit.

Please let me know if you’re still facing any issues, or whether you’ve since been able to complete Site Kit setup.
