    Somebody got in touch with me to say my ‘subscribe by email’ widget (in right-hand sidebar) isn’t working. When an email address is entered, it appears in red text, and then returns the message “There was an error when subscribing. Please try again.”

    I’m not sure how long this has been going on for, and I can’t find other recent issues with it in this forum.

    Any help very welcome, thank you!

    I just tried subscribing to your site and it was successful! 🙂

    I got the verification email, which says “Hello lovely bibliophile!

    You recently followed Simon’s posts at This means you will receive each new post by email…etc.”

    Was it just one person who reported this to you, or several?

    Many thanks for testing! I’m glad it’s worked for you – it was just the one person, and I’ve tried again entering her email address, and it still returned an error. Very peculiar!

    I suppose I shouldn’t share her email address in a public forum without her permission, but it looks like a standard gmail address.
