I want to add my own image in place of the theme default image and follow the steps but end up with black space to the left and right of the image. Have I misunderstood or not properly followed the steps? Or is my image size too small ?
The steps I followed were to first hide the theme image and then :- “Please use the following steps to keep the banner image:
Go to Dashboard=> Appearance=> Widget=> Banner=> Then put the Text Widget inside the banner widget=> After that please use the image url inside the content but use the image url like this

    Then save it.”

    My website is http://www.natures-pace.com.
Hope the solution is simple ?

    Hi paulhuntnp,

Thank you for contacting Styled Themes Support team. It seems your image is not with enough length to cover whole banner space. We recommend you to keep image of 1700×500 or of larger dimension so it covers whole banner area.

Let us know how it goes after changing dimension of an Banner Image.

    Thank

Hi and thanks for looking into the problem and suggesting a solution.
I implemented your suggestion but the problem still exists. Here’s what I tried and what happened:-
1.Replaced the image with one of 1700 x 500. Still had the black areas left and right.
2.When I scrutinised things I noticed that the url address of the image didn’t match the File name.On upload it added ” -1024-x-340″. I figured out that this was because the Settings of Media Image Size for Large images was set at 1024.
3.Therefore I changed this to 1700, uploaded the images again but still got the black areas.
    4. Increased the Media Settings to 2560 and tried with a larger image (2560 x 851) but still get the black areas.

Could it be something to do with way I obtain the url of the image? The Attachment Details shows the url address but it is Read Only so I right click the image, Copy Image Address and Paste it into the Banner text widget.

Also when inspecting the code from the front end I see there is a dimension “width 1140 height 397” Is this affecting things?

Any more suggestions will be welcome.

Looks like the down-scaling is caused by Jetpack’s Photon module.
Please go to Jetpack / Settings and disable the Photon module – it should fix this issue.

Thank you. That has done the trick. Thank you for your investigatory work.
BTW- couldn’t find the Photon module straightaway but found the Dashboard tab in Jetpack/Settings and it was there.
