Slide transition & Youtube JS API

I’m using the Youtube JS API to record player state information to a datalayer for later use by an analytics package. This works fine on a multi-slide slider when the YT video is the first slide and playback begins without viewing any other slides. However, if I switch to the next slide and then back to the video slide and resume playing, the player state information no longer seems to be available. Any idea why the transition between slides prevents this player state data from recording?
