Show a “follow comments” option

    The JetPack option under Discussion/Show a “follow comment” option confused me and resulted in one visitor writing the comment you see on the linked page that he never got my replies to his comments. I am not using JetPack to handle my comments but the standard WordPress comment stream. I checked the followers and see it blank. Am I, or does the visitor need to do something to make this work?

    Since I have not heard from the JetPack team in three days, I decided to find a different solution and installed a new plugin to handle this matter. As far as JetPack is concerned, I am not sure if the matter is worth looking into it. I am not marking this matter resolved because it has not been, I simply found a workaround.

    Am I, or does the visitor need to do something to make this work?

    You don’t have to do anything, but the person who subscribes to the comments on a post then receives an email asking them to confirm their subscription by clicking on a link in the email. As long as they do not confirm their subscription, they will not receive any further email.

    It is possible that this confirmation email landed in their spam folder, or that they didn’t click on the link, or that they commented using a wrong email address. If you’d like me to look into it some more, do not hesitate to contact me via this contact form and give me the user’s email address. I will then check our logs to find out more.

    I hope this clarifies things a bit.
