Hi Leonard,
Thanks for reaching out, and for already testing with the other plugins turned off. That helps a lot!
Both things you are seeing usually have the same cause: WordPress is not able to save WP Statistics’ settings to the database. The Start Migration button only saves a small “started” note and reloads the page, so when that note can’t be saved, the notice simply comes back and it looks like nothing happened. On a fresh install every WP Statistics setting is a brand new row in the wp_options table, and that is the step that fails.
There are two common reasons for this. Could you check them?
- Object cache. If your host uses Redis or Memcached, or there is a file called object-cache.php in your wp-content folder, please flush that cache (from your host’s panel or the caching plugin that added it), then try saving the WP Statistics settings again.
- The wp_options table after a site move. When a site is moved or restored from a backup, the wp_options table sometimes loses its AUTO_INCREMENT setting. WordPress can then update settings that already exist, but it can’t add new ones. You or your host can check it with this query (use your own table prefix if it isn’t
wp_):
SHOW CREATE TABLE wp_options;
The option_id line should end with AUTO_INCREMENT. If it doesn’t, your host can restore it. Please take a database backup before any change there.
If neither of these is it, please turn on WP_DEBUG_LOG, try saving the settings once more, and check any lines from wp-content/debug.log that mention the database. That will show us exactly what is blocking the save.
Looking forward to hearing how it goes!
