Search
-
Hello,
Is there a way volunteers could search opportunities by location?
-
Thanks for reaching out @gbbuggs. At the moment there are two ways I think you could approach this.
1. You can put the location of each volunteer opportunity within the main content of each. That would make the location searchable using the default WordPress search.
2. You could create individual pages for each location and link from those pages to each opportunity at that location. For example, you could have pages called “St. Louis Volunteer Opportunities”, “Chicago Volunteer Opportunities”, “Austin Volunteer Opportunities”, etc. Then you could create a landing page called something like “Volunteer Opportunities” with links to each location’s page. This is a more manual approach than using the shortcodes or option 1 above, but it would allow visitors to see the volunteer opportunities that are specific to a given location.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Since we haven’t heard from you in a little while I’m going to mark this as resolved. As always is the case, let us know if you have any other questions.

Hey,
Thanks for your help, but I’m having trouble completing your suggestions. I am unsure of what you mean by “linking” the pages. I created the landing page, as well as, the other suggested pages.
How do I have links to each opportunity page and how can I link the opportunities to the suggested pages? Thanks in advance
Thanks for reaching back out @gbbuggs and sorry if I was unclear before. By linking, I simply mean creating links within new location pages to those specific opportunities at that location. For example, you might create a location page called “Miami”. On that page, you would create three links to the volunteer opportunities called “Trash Pickup”, “Plant Flowers” and “Rock Climb Instruction”.
You can do this by using the built-in linking feature of WordPress. You can read more about how to add links in WordPress by visiting http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/beginners-guide-on-how-to-add-a-link-in-wordpress/.
I hope that’s helpful. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Jonathan
