Scheduled products – new ?
-
I’m guessing this is part of the new version of Woocommerce released the other day but how do I turn it off? I can’t find any documentation on it anywhere.
I create products and save them as drafts. I might be missing a weight, or a price, or some other info that prevents me from making it a live product. Now Woocommerce has scheduled all of these for release on the 6th November 2021 (where did that date come from?) whether I’ve completed them or not. That’s actually a bit disastrous if others are using drafts like me. I could suddenly have a live product with no price or free freight.
Getting around it is not easy.
I used to just click on the drafts tab and it would bring up the items I’d saved as drafts, edit them, publish them and all was good. Now it doesn’t give me the choice to publish anymore. Where the publish button used to be it now says schedule.
I’ve gone in, changed the price. So now to get it live I can only see this way of doing it.
Where it says this
Schedule for: Nov 6, 2021 at 21:26 Edit
I click on edit, change the date and time to now. Say ok, then it changes the schedule button to publish. Then I can click the publish button to make it live. Please … does someone know how to turn this off?
Or an alternative for putting ‘drafts’ somewhere where they’re not going to get automatically released ?Scheduling is a nice idea for a ‘flash sale’ or similar that you might want to release at midnight whilst you’re sleeping. But drafts are drafts. Not ready for publishing yet at any point.
-
Actually, it’s worse than that. I’m not going to get this in the right order ‘cos I’m so frustrated. I set the schedule time but I set it for a minute ahead, by the time I went to publish it that minute had past and it reverted back to scheduled.
I thought I’d try tricking it and changing the status to Draft and then allowing me to publish it but that sent it back to scheduled.
The quickest way is to delete the product and recreate it!
Hi @witchystitchy,
I think the confusion here comes from the “Publish immediately” wording in the Publish tab of the Edit Product page.

Link to image: https://i.imgur.com/lHR1tS7.pngYou can just leave as it is and simply click on “Save Draft” to save the new product as a draft if you don’t need the scheduler. It won’t be visible in the front end as long as it’s with the Draft status and you’d need to click on “Publish” to publish the product and make it visible.
Cheers.
Hi Mirko
No, this was completely different. I had to delete all the drafts and recreate them. I’ll try creating another one now and see if I can replicate it.
Thankshttps://snipboard.io/oftBq4.jpg
See how it says Schedule for: Nov 6, 2021 at 21:26 Edit
And I don’t have the publish button? It now says ‘schedule’
Hi @witchystitchy ,
It’s odd that you’re seeing “Schedule” instead of the “Publish” button on your site. I checked on the latest version of WooCommerce and I see the “Publish” button as seen here: https://d.pr/i/VPxl4r
For us to understand the setup better, could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.
Hi wpnomad
Happy to do so – I’m not a coder though. Is there anything in it that shouldn’t be posted on a public forum? I’d like to take out the URL if that doesn’t make any difference to support but happy to provide it in private.
Thanks
System Status is safe to post here, but you could leave out the site URL if you prefer.
Thank you maykato
I removed the URL
This only changed after I did the last Woocommerce update. Prior to that I’ve always left drafts there awaiting information, and I’ve never used a scheduler.### WordPress Environment ### WordPress address (URL): https:// Site address (URL): https:// WC Version: 5.4.1 REST API Version: ✔ 5.4.1 WC Blocks Version: ✔ 5.1.0 Action Scheduler Version: ✔ 3.1.6 WC Admin Version: ✔ 2.3.1 Log Directory Writable: ✔ WP Version: 5.7.2 WP Multisite: – WP Memory Limit: 256 MB WP Debug Mode: – WP Cron: ✔ Language: en_AU External object cache: – ### Server Environment ### Server Info: LiteSpeed PHP Version: 7.3.28 PHP Post Max Size: 8 MB PHP Time Limit: 300 PHP Max Input Vars: 1000 cURL Version: 7.71.0 OpenSSL/1.1.1d SUHOSIN Installed: – MySQL Version: 5.7.34 Max Upload Size: 8 MB Default Timezone is UTC: ✔ fsockopen/cURL: ✔ SoapClient: ❌ Your server does not have the SoapClient class enabled - some gateway plugins which use SOAP may not work as expected. Thanks for sending over your System Status.
Indeed, this is a bit odd, it could be that a plugin or your theme is conflicting with WooCommerce and creating an automatic rule for the product to be published at a later date. As a first step, could you please do a conflict test by following the steps below?
- Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
- Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
- Repeat the action that is causing the problem
If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated.
To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict.
You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts.
Thanks!
Hi Mirko
I understand the reasoning behind the suggestion but all of those plugins were in place prior to me doing the latest update of woocommerce.
If I’d added a new plugin then yes, it’s definitely the first thing I’d be looking at but they’ve pretty much all been there since the site went live on the 1st February and I’ve never experienced this problem before.Hi @witchystitchy,
Thanks for getting back.
>I understand the reasoning behind the suggestion but all of those plugins were in place prior to me doing the latest update of woocommerce.
The issue is that, with the recent WooCommerce update, there might have been changes in the core plugin such that your theme or one or two of your existing plugins might be incompatible, using deprecated functions, making conflicting commands, etc.
A conflict test might help narrow down to the specific cause, if that’s the case. So, I would recommend performing the test to see if something comes up.
Thanks.Hi abwaita
I get the reasoning behind it – it’s just not going to be possible for me to do that.
It’s a business – the site would be down for too long. And I have to go into hospital tomorrow for surgery so I’m going to have to find a work around instead of using drafts.
Hopefully someone else will find the same issue and be able to have the time to investigate it further.
I’ll test the drafts after the next woocommerce update and see if the problem has rectified itself.
Thanks
Hi,
I appreciate the clarification.
I would add that there’s a way to troubleshoot in an isolated environment where only you (the admin) can observe changes when you’re disabling plugins or changing themes. Your customers on the other hand will not be affected by any of these changes.
This is possible with the Health Check plugin and we have a guide on how to use it.
Maybe when you’re able to, you could try this approach.
Lastly, all the best with the surgery.
Thanks.
We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – we’ll be here if and/or when you are ready to continue.
Cheers.
