  • Thanks for doing this, and thanks to Ed also. I’ve been using this plugin for years on 2 sites. Running into some jscript errors now so would be nice to get things fixed up. Jeff Meland

    PHP version8.3.30 (Supports 64bit values)

The error just says Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

I’m not sure what else I can give you.

To add to that, I can’t even uninstall it via the Plugins console. I get this error:

Deletion failed: There has been a critical error on this website.Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress.

I have to manually remove it from the host file manager.

    Some comments about the plugin:
    1. gwledford (@gwledford) – yes, you’re right, there were such issues, but they’ve been fixed in the new version: https://urryes.ru/wp-content/uploads/2026/rootspersons.zip
    2. The activation issue also exists in Ed Beckey’s original version (7.5.5) – a fatal error during activation.
    3. Due to WordPress rules, I had to rename the original plugin (to RootsPersons – to clarify its origin) and submit a request to list it as a new plugin (naturally, I indicate in the comments that this is a fork of the original plugin). There’s no other way, since the original plugin, according to the same WordPress rules, is permanently closed. The listing will most likely not take place, as multiple compatibility issues were discovered after the submission.
    4. The new plugin fixes a large number of bugs, adds new features, and maintains compatibility with the original Rootspersona plugin as much as possible. I tested it on the https://playground.wordpress.net/ platform (anyone can do this – it’s very simple) and on my own sites. I haven’t encountered any serious issues.
How to use the new plugin:
    a) Install the new plugin on your site from the zip archive.
    b) Deactivate the old plugin without deleting it.
    c) Activate the new plugin.
    d) Use it as you would the old one.
Note: Other steps are possible, but these are the safest.
I’d like to get feedback from all testers.

The plugin is back on track again — this time, the WordPress team recommended continuing development of the existing plugin instead of creating a new branch. Today, I sent them a new version for review, and I hope everything goes well. If and when that happens, I’ll post about it here on the forum.
