How can I selected the type of related products shown? The category is set for sports performance but downloads having nothing to do with sports are shown.

Hello,

Related products are selected based on the same tags or categories automatically, and you can not specify product by default.

To have more control over related products, I’d recommend using a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/wt-woocommerce-related-products/
