I too am having this issue, the date is set to expire yet it does not.
Running WordPress 4.7.2
It doesn’t work for me, either. I have it set to remove a category from my event posts, and nothing happens. I’m still doing it manually. I’m running 4.7.3.

Take a look at the other plugins that you have installed. I use the plugin daily, and it works on the latest versions of WordPress. Odd’s are, that one of the other plugins you are running is incorrectly trying to work with the cron system, and is causing problems.
What version of PHP are you running?
It doesn’t work for me, either.

Can you test on a vanilla install – only WP 4.7.3 and Post Expirator and report back the results?
Any plugin that interacts with the wordpress internal cron incorrectly can and will cause conflicts with scheduled tasks running
