I thought a clean install would work, but instead it crashed the site again and I captured the error.
Link to image of error.
And line 49 is
require_once( JETPACK__PLUGIN_DIR . 'class.jetpack-data.php' );
No clue why it breaks there. The website’s the same and everything should behave in the same way. No new plugins since the last update.
There may be a conflict with another piece of software on your site.
We see that your site is back up now, which is good, but we need to determine what is occurring here.
First, please contact your site host and have them update you to at least version 7 of PHP.
Then, make sure that WordPress, your theme, and all plugins are up-to-date.
Next, create a staging version of your site and enable WordPress Debugging:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-staging/
https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress
Disable all plugins and switch to a default theme, like Twenty Seventeen.
Then, try reinstalling and connecting Jetpack, and see if you experience the same problem on your staging site.
If you do, create an inquiry here:

Please include your log and a link to this thread.
Thank you.
I just had to uninstall and re-install (from scratch) the Jetpack plugin and it’s finally working.
ALL my other plugins and themes were up to date at the time. I didn’t change my version of PHP either. No conflicts. Just a poor update process that tends to break.
It’s insane that something as simple as an update suffers from such inconsistency.
Hi Gabriel,
Great to hear that it’s working now.
There are a number of reasons that an automatic update could fail. Jetpack is a large plugin, with many modules and language files. This can cause issues with some servers when using the automatic update.
If you have any other issue, please create a new topic

Thank you!
I’ve had the exact same problem with jetpack plugin crashing my site every few months. It just crashed again. I deleted it and now it won’t install at all. All my plug-ins and themes are up to date. I’ll try the possible solutions listed above by jetpack support, and if that doesn’t work contact them myself. Thanks for sharing. Glad to know I’m not the only one.
