[Plugin: Jetpack by WordPress.com] Won't connect to WordPress

I just wanted the stats, but have to install the bloated Jetpack to get it. This is the second time in three or four years that the WP Stats function broke and I lost all my historical data. The first time WP support acknowledged a problem.

This time all I get is finger pointing between WP and my host. Nothing else has changed or stopped working. It is no doubt something I’ve done wrong, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what that could be. I made no changes to my blog when “Jetpack” stopped displaying stats.

Bring back WP stats as a free-standing plug-in and I’ll re-install.
