• I’m running the Genesis framework on several podcast sites, and just noticed something this week.

We have to update Genesis to version 2.3.1 before updating to WP 4.6, otherwise WSOD will occur. However, sites that have been updated to Genesis 2.3.1 and are running either WP 4.5.3 or WP 4.6 no longer display the player in the post.

The player does still display in the excerpts, but it has vanished from all the posts with active podcasts. Enabling the “Yes, please try to fix” option does resolve this issue, but I’m not 100% sure why it happened at all… previous Genesis updates never affected Powerpress, but this update is supposed to take care of a potential issue with CPTs (just in case it might be related)

This page explains in detail each “try to fix” option and why they happen. https://create.blubrry.com/resources/powerpress/powerpress-settings/media-appearance/resolving-plugin-theme-conflict-issues/

More than likely the theme changed how it uses the the_excerpt and the_content functions.

All the excerpt displays still worked fine after the upgrades, that’s why I hadn’t immediately noticed that the player had vanished from the single posts. Not until someone commented that the download link was missing, and I checked the other sites that had been upgraded in the past week.

There may be a little more to this than meets the eye. I have two more sites that I upgraded the framework for, and those sites didn’t have this glitch. The only difference between the ones where the player vanished and the ones where it didn’t are that the sites where it vanished from single posts are running older child themes. The sites where the player wasn’t affected on single posts are using newer child themes.

I could compare those calls between the new & old themes, see if I can spot something; just thought it would be helpful for any other podcasters using Genesis to be aware this might happen if using an older child theme and upgrading to Genesis 2.3.1

Awesome! We added these try to fix options for these situations. We gave up working with theme developers to fix these issues early on and instead offer these fix options to deal with specific situations.
