• In WP 5.8, I can no longer go to a page and just update the content. It looks like I now have to go to the appearance/widgets area of WordPress. And when I do go there, my content looks funky and shows a bunch of warnings that weren’t there before. And if I want to create a new page, now I have multiple steps…adding a page through the “pages” navigation and establishing the settings and meta data, then adding content through the appearance navigation. This seems so unintuitive and time consuming. Am I missing something? Is there an easier way?

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install and activate “Health Check”: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/
It will add some additional features under the menu item under Tools > Site Health.
On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site. This allows you to test for various compatibility issues.
There’s a more detailed description about how to use the Health Check plugin and its Troubleshooting Mode at https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/appendix/troubleshooting-using-the-health-check/

Thanks for the ideas. Tried deactivating plugins. No dice. I have health check and the only messages are about security. There are only 3 and didn’t seem to be connected in any way. e.g. “You have many inactive plugins that you should delete.”

I’m not sure how I change my theme. My whole site is based on this Genesis theme and the idea of changing out the theme seems like it would completely hose me.

Am I supposed to see content editing capabilities in the “page” screen within WP 5.8? Maybe the UX changed and I am no longer able to change the content except through the appearance navigation path?

Ugh. I’m feeling like I may have to give up on WP altogether as it’s becoming harder and harder to maintain. If you have any other ideas, I’m open to hearing them. *sighs* Thanks for all your help.

I figured it out. Its a bug using Safari. When I moved to Chrome it worked.
