Outbound Clicks and Custom URLs

Tracking outbound link clicks are huge for us, so I was delighted to see jetpack counts them.

Most of our links go to the same place, so we created custom URLs via Google URL builder to differentiate. Unfortunately, jetpack is dropping the custom part of the URL and just reporting the final destination.

How can I get jetpack to show the full URL?

sorry, the punchline is that even though the URLs are those above, jetpack is simply reporting:

http://www.example.com

In case my over-simplification hurts your testing more than it helped, the full URL is really something like:

http://www.example.com/listing/details/12345?utm_source=fhfsijc&utm_medium=plethora-o-highlights&utm_campaign=outbound-clicks

…and jetpack is reporting

http://www.example.com/listing/details/12345

for all clicks.

Howdy,

Sorry for the delay (holiday weekend and all that jazz). We’re on the same page now. That’s an intentional simplification, thinking of the typical user wouldn’t be relying on the data for that level of detail.

I’ve started an enhancement request at https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/595 for our stats team to weigh in on.

The bio pic is neither actually. In Chicago earlier this month and tried a “Not Your Father’s Root Beer”. 10% ABV brew that tasted exactly like a fine root beer (soda). Incredible. Almost ordered a “refill” thinking I had a soda. Packs a punch. The brewery’s site is at http://smalltownbrewery.com/?page_id=11
