Hi, I have version 2.8.1 and the ordering isn’t working correctly in admin, with the plugin enabled. I need to click on the Date column a bunch of times to get it to the exact same status, where the latest post finally displays. A user thought her posts weren’t publishing at all. As an aside I need to fix some of my template filtering, which I’m assuming is tied into wordpress core and your changes were simply a follow-on? thanks Martin

Hi @deisedesign, thanks for the detailed write-up.

Good news: this isn’t a WordPress-core or template-filtering conflict — it’s a regression from 2.8.0. That release added a “new-item placement” option that defaulted to bottom, silently flipping the previous behavior where new posts landed at the top. So with the plugin enabled (ordering by manual order), your latest post sat at the bottom — which is exactly why clicking the Date column (sorting by date instead) brought it back to the top.

I’ve just shipped 2.8.2, which restores the default to top. After updating, new posts go to the top again and you shouldn’t need to touch the Date column. Posts already pushed to the bottom under 2.8.x won’t move on their own (the fix applies to newly created posts) — you can drag them back, or use Settings → SCPOrder → Reset order to re-seed the order by date. If you ever want new items at the bottom, it’s now an explicit setting under “New items”.

Appreciate you taking the time to investigate it!

I actually found that setting shortly after. Thanks for the excellent reply, that all makes sense.
