Order by taxonomy term

    I have a series of images that I want to order and display by the year of their creation.

    My first intention was to create a custom taxonomy “Year”. But if I get the terms of this taxonomy, I would have no control over their order when I want to display them chronologically. This also brought me to this article: http://ottopress.com/2011/when-to-not-use-a-custom-taxonomy/

    So the second option would be to create a custom field “Year” and use the WP_Query to get the posts in the desired order. This approach seems a lot more complicated and makes me think whether I should just ignore all logic and use https://wordpress.org/plugins/taxonomy-terms-order/.

    Any opinions on this?
