Hi,
While I’m committed to have realeases that will upgrade smoothly without needing additional manual actions, a major release upgrade should be treated accordingly. This means checking the changes and verifying the settings.
Each major version has its release notes published, it’s basically an addition to the change log, explaining exactly what was modified and to what to pay attention after the upgrade, see the release notes of v5.
In addition there’s also a notice on your dashboard as a reminder to check the plugin’s options.
If you think that there other things that could be done regarding the awareness, let me know.

No worries, thank you for the answer.
Being myself developer I am used to major updates.
However, when you forbid a user to register on WordRress 4.7, it does not activate magically on 4.8 😉
I have a specific problem or I handle a very large number of WordPress from a global manager. Messages on the dashboard are not visible.
