I always judge whether to buy premium versions of plugins based upon the kind of support I get with the free one. In this case, there is no support unless you pay. Something tells me that the service you get on premium is lacking as well.
Free versions are designed to help a person decide if they want to pony up for the premium version. Much of that is the kind of support one can expect to get. Not upgrading here although the free version of the plugin does work OK.

I’m glad the plugin is working for you. The “free” version here is the full version of the plugin. Further, all of our addons are coded as they are because it makes sense to separate things that way, not for business reasons. All of our addons are available for free either in the wp.org repository here or on GitHub.

Our paid PMPro memberships are specifically for people who want support from us directly, access to our premium tutorials and videos, and/or automatic updates through our servers for the plugins we host outside the wp.org repository.

That’s one way to think about it.

We don’t share the code here in order to convince people to become customers. We share the code here because we believe in open source software and that this is the best way to build the best possible membership platform plugin. I’d love to offer better/faster support here, but we only have so much time and money to spend.

The nature of the wp.org site, the fact that WP itself is free and easy to setup, the availability of donation links on most other plugins, and the existence of this free forum implies a certain operating procedure for plugins in the repo that jives with your statements.

We do things differently. You are free to use the code for free obviously. You are free to get help from others in the forums. We even spend something like $1k per month for the time our support developers answer questions in the wp.org forums.

The majority of our time and money however is focused on maintaining the plugin and supporting the people who have paid for PMPro membership. The 5% of users that become our customers subsidize all of this.

I just wanted to clarify our stance on some of the things your brought up in your review. That said, I’ll take a look at your open threads to see if we can help.
