• Subject: MailPoet “Add a subscriber to a list” creates subscriber but never adds them to the list

    Hi Uncanny Automator team,

I’m having an issue with the MailPoet integration and hoping you can help.

    SETUP

    • Recipe: Gravity Forms “Form is submitted” → MailPoet “Add a subscriber to a list”
    • Fields: Email, First name, Last name mapped from Gravity Forms tokens
    • Subscriber Status: Subscribed
    • “Add the user directly to the list – Do not send confirmation email”: checked
    • List: (ID: 4) Staff It All Hire Us List
    • MailPoet is using the MailPoet Sending Service
    • Uncanny Automator version: [VERSION]
    • MailPoet version: [VERSION]
    • WordPress version: 7.1.3

    THE PROBLEM
The recipe runs every time and the subscriber is created in MailPoet with status Subscribed, but they are never added to the list. The Lists column in MailPoet stays empty.

In the Automator log, the recipe shows “Completed,” but the MailPoet action shows “Completed with notice” and the note says “Waiting for the action to be completed.” It never finishes. The action details show the correct email, name, status, and list ID [“4”].

    WHAT I’VE ALREADY TRIED

    • Removed and reselected the list in the action (only one list with this name exists, ID 4)
    • Added a second identical “Add a subscriber to a list” action after the first one: same result
    • Unchecked “Add the user directly to the list”: subscriber is created as Unconfirmed, still with no list
    • Deactivated the MailPoet automation tied to this list: still no list attached
    • Confirmed Background actions is off in Automator settings
    • Confirmed both plugins are up to date
    • Manually adding the subscriber to the list in MailPoet works fine, so the list itself is OK

Could you help me figure out why the list assignment isn’t completing? I’m happy to share logs or screenshots.

    Thank you,

    Hi @nlikens,

Thanks for the detailed report, and sorry for the trouble with the MailPoet action.

The list is added by a scheduled background task (WP-Cron) a few seconds after the subscriber is created, and it looks like that task may not be running on your site.

We tried to open the Google Drive link you shared, but it’s asking us to request access, so we haven’t been able to view the files yet.

Since they may contain private site details, could you please email us at support@automatorplugin.com with either the Drive link, with general access, or the files attached directly to the email?

Please also include your system report from Automator > Status, as that will show us the plugin versions and cron status. Please mention this forum thread in your email so we can match it up. Once we have the files, we’ll take a closer look and follow up.

    Thanks!
