I recently updated WP , and also did upload Yoast SEO plugin to the last version. My WordPress version is 5.6 . Yoast is the latest version as of 20 Jan 2021.

For some reason, the “edit snippet” tab ( which has all the fields related to keywords , meta description, title, etc ) isn’t there anymore. ( as shown on screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/vUmnVzy.png )

I simply haven’t got any fields where I can put my desired SEO terms and titles etc. ( I was looking for a change in UX maybe where the location would have changed, I doubt it , I checked all panels in the post section / using the Gutenberg editor) .

Double checked the “Features” options in “SEO”, and all have default values ( set to “on” / “show” / active : https://i.imgur.com/bVN2sjz.png ) , to show all the features. Deactivated all plugins and issue still there. Checked the JS console and have no direct error related to yoast , per my knowledge ( just few ones regarding images not being secured with httpS – “mixed display content” – I doubt this is the problem).

I’m thinking about going back to the previous version. If someone could tell , would the last Yoast update be unstable ?

Hopefully this can be solved, I have to make a decision regarding a solid SEO plugin for WP within the week.

    Thanks.

  • Hello!

    Sorry for the trouble.

We need you to check for conflicts. To do that, please switch to a standard theme like Twenty-Twenty and deactivate all non-Yoast plugins. See if the issue occurs. If not, reactivate your plugins one at a time and see if the issue occurs again for every plugin reactivated. Lastly, switch back to your theme.

Please test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin allows you to perform a conflict check without affecting normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts.

@onlyincebu : thanks for your reply. I made the changes as you asked, but the missing “Edit Snippets” section is still missing : I have deactivated the only 4 plugins I have ( https://i.imgur.com/UGDPNXr.png ) , and activated default theme Twenty-Twenty . I also logged out of admin and logged in again. No success.

So, last try for me is to upgrade the php version of my server ( I had a php message saying “WordPress has detected that your site is running on an insecure version of PHP.” in the admin panel ) – but I doubt this was the cause. (I will update if I fix it with the PHP version upgrate).

Edit – Actually I cannot update to php 7.4 because it would break my Prestashop (other) site. So my PHP version is 7.1 but I believe this is not the problem.

I will go back to the previous version of Yoast see hat happens. Otherwise I will have to consider another option for my needs. Thanks.

I rolled back to Yoast 15.6 but that did not fix the missing Edit Snippets tab – very strange…

@mlclmp We’re sorry to hear that it still isn’t showing even when using a default theme and only Yoast SEO active.

Can you please also try checking the following settings to confirm that they are set correctly:

    • Can you confirm you have the right user permissions? You can check by going to Users->Profile->Yoast SEO settings (may need to scroll down) and confirm that both “Disable SEO analysis” and “Disable readability analysis” are unclicked?
    • Can you confirm that the SEO, Readability, and Insights are all enabled by going to SEO->General->Features and checking that SEO Analysis, Readability Analysis, and Insights are all set to ‘On’?
    • Can you confirm that if you go to the post/page and click on Screen Options (in the top right) that all the right options are enabled? You can do so for the block editor by performing the following actions:

In WordPress, go to the edit screen where the meta box is missing.
Click on the ‘More tools and Options’ three dot icon.
Click on ‘Preferences’ at the bottom.
Under ‘Document settings’, check the ‘Yoast SEO’ checkbox.
Under ‘Additional panels’, check the ‘Yoast SEO Premium’ checkbox.
To show the panel, check the ‘Yoast SEO’ box.

We also have a guide on enabling this at the following link: https://yoast.com/help/yoastseo-meta-box-missing/ and these articles should also help serve as a guide for some of the settings: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-enable-disable-the-keyword-analysis/ and https://yoast.com/help/enable-disable-content-readability-analysis/
