I’m trying to make my Web Stories from videos that I created and edited specifically for this purpose. I’ve already added audio to them expecting that when they uploaded that would carry over. However that doesn’t seem to be the case? If I upload a video it doesn’t matter if it originally had sound it’s muted. The only work around seemed to be to strip the audio from the videos and add them to the background. Which seems to be more work than necissary.

Is this an error or is that the only way to get audio to my video stories?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi there, @mercedesmermaid! Appreciate your post.

Browsers do not allow you to just autoplay sound without user interaction. So that’s not a limitation in the Web Stories format, but a restriction in browsers.

If you uploaded a video with audio, the audio should work. Could you try to remove the video, re-insert the one with original audio, and share that story URL with us so we can check on it?

As we haven’t received a response, I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist. Thank you!

Same problem here. This is an absolute showstopper. Very dissapointing.

Audio from MP4 is absent (not playing).

If you upload an MP3 to add to the video even though the original file has audio embedded, the audio channel is activated and appears (speaker icon), and BOTH the video audio and the mp3 play on top of each other. As soon as you remove the mp3 video is mute again despite having embedded audio.

It appears the option to add audio opens the audio channel which is off but overlays audio that is present in the file.

The audio needs to be coded to be present and activated for the mp4 file. It’s mute and there’s no way to turn it on without adding an audio file, which only overlays the new audio file out of sync with the original which is only then audible.

Tried this with both the document audio and element audio. same problem. Please fix urgently!!!

Upload or link an MP4 with audio > Publish > PLAY the file > No sound or icon to turn it on!! its not the browser!!!

The only quick and dirty way around this issue is to upload an audio file of the silence of roughly the duration of your videos. Then the original mp4 audio plays but the new file is inaudible.

@logicgasm Sorry to hear that you’re having troubles with video audio channels in stories. Could you please open a new support topic and share the link to your story and MP4 file there? This will help us analyze the problem.

    Thank you.
