Nexgen Gallery Directory/ upgrade?

    Using NexGen Gallery, can one keep the Galleries in the computer directory or do they have to be in a WordPress directory? Can I delete galleries and still have my photos posted on my website without losing them? Also, Is it worth it, besides the cool displays and support, to upgrade to the pro version of Nexgen Gallery (free)?
