Yes, if the Mobile theme module is active, Jetpack will check your browser’s user agent and load the Mobile Theme if you’re visiting the site from a mobile device.
You can check how this is done here:
http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/jetpack/trunk/class.jetpack-user-agent.php
http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/jetpack/trunk/modules/minileven/minileven.php#L30
If you’re experiencing issues with the Mobile Theme, it might be caused by some caching issues on your site. If you use a caching plugin on your site, you will want to check your plugin options to make sure that all mobile options are configured.
I hope this helps.

Thanks, i don’t believe i use any cache plugins, so just using the mobile application is fine without all the other addons?
I guess the mobile template requires setting up or does it automatically strip unwanted formatting etc?
You don’t need to do anything: just go to the Jetpack menu in your dashboard, and activate the Mobile Theme module. No need for other add-ons, and since it’s a different theme you shouldn’t have to change anything in your formatting.
