Hi @gkaralov,
Thanks for reaching out about the Google Merchant API migration notice.
Will this plugin handle the migration to the new Merchant API or it’s something I should do manually myself?
No manual action needed on your end. The migration from the Content API for Shopping to the new Google Merchant API is being actively handled within the Google for WooCommerce plugin, and the transition is expected to happen automatically through upcoming plugin updates.
The main thing you should do is make sure the plugin stays updated. Keeping it on the latest version ensures you’ll receive the Merchant API migration as it rolls out, well before the August 18, 2026 deadline.
You can also verify your current status in Google Merchant Center: go to Settings → Data Sources and check the Source column. If it already shows “Merchant API” you’re good. If it still shows “Content API”, the plugin update will handle the switch.
Hope that puts your mind at ease. Let us know if anything else comes up!
Thank you for the answer! 🙂

Hi @frankremmy,
how can I prove that the migration worked. After the update I checked the status in Google Merchant Center and now I see “Merchant API” and “Content API”, but the row of “Merchant Center” still shows 0 products. I checked it a few days later and still 0 products synced.
In my opinion it still syncs to the old “Content API”.
Thanks in advance for the answer!
Hi @weseo!
To keep the discussion organized and ensure your issue receives the attention it deserves, could you please create a new support topic for your issue instead of posting it in this thread? This thread is related to another user’s issue, and creating a separate topic helps us track and troubleshoot each case more effectively.
Also, as per forum best practices shown here, it is advised that you create a new thread so that we can address your issue(s) separately.
You can create a new thread here: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woocommerce/#new-topic-0 and make sure to include as much information as you can.
Thank you for cooperation and understanding.
Hello again,
I updated the plugin to the newest version two days ago since Merchant API should be available now but in my GMC the data source still shows up as Content API? Is this normal? https://prnt.sc/scJIcixxJZpL
Hi @gkaralov ,
Thanks for the follow up. Yes, it is normal to see the source in the GMC dashboard as Content API.
Your data source might continue to show Content API in Google Merchant Center for existing merchants even after using version 3.8.1 or later; this means the source details haven’t been updated in the dashboard, but the underlying API has been updated. The plugin syncs to the same source ID using the new Merchant center API endpoint. You can verify this in the debug logs with the product synced via the MAPI endpoint denoted by WooCommerce\GoogleListingsAndAds\API\Google\Mapi\MerchantApiClient:.
Also, the feed would now show a language attribute next to Google for WooCommerce. In your case it’s the RO for Romanian. https://cleanshot.com/share/LfxCBD81 which is specific to the merchant API.
Great. Thank you so much! 🙂
