  • this pretty much covers it. Its locatable via the “Docs” link on the top of every page on this site.

bump. 😎 Can anybody post a tut.? I need it as a homepage.

Is installing it in the root directory of your web space too complex? Or am I misunderstanding the question?

No. It isn’t too complex. As i said i’ve installed it before. But the problem is i have no folders. I login into the ftp and nothing is there.

I’m not sure I’m following you. If you’re not going to install it in a sub-directory, you don’t need any extra folders. After you install it to your root directory, you’ll see some new folders, of course (like /wp-admin).

Ok. When you get hosting in either the FTP or Direct Admin, There are folders are there not? As in Public HTML and stuff. But my problem is there is not ANY folders. So i’ll post a screenshot.

If BBcode Doesnt work heres a direct link. http://img206.imageshack.us/my.php?image=see6lk.jpg

Sorry for double post here. But see how there are no folders?

Well, I’m not sure what to expect from your host (whoever they may be). If you put something in that directory, say mytest.html, can you see if when you go to http://www.yourdomain.com/mytest.html ? If you can, that’s where you’ll install WordPress to.

If you can’t, you’ll contact your host to find out where you’re stuff needs to be.

    (@coryc93)

Ok. I’ll explain again. Whenever you install something, it goes in a folder. If you wanted it to be mydomain.com/blog i would make a blog directory. But i need to to be accessed when i go to mydomain.com and then my blog will be there.

Just don’t make the directory. Upload it without making the directory. In most cases it will be inside either /www/ or /public_html/ though if you’re on a windoze server I guess it could be different, never worked on one of those, thank the Big Kahuna!

Ok, Then when editing the PHP file in wordpress what would the directory be set as? That was mainly the problem in the first place

So umm, what PHP file would that be? The only one I can think of that you need to edit before installing is wp-config.php, but that’s database info. No path stuff.

Are you talking about editing themes? Or the actual core files?

    themes are in /wp-content/themes/

Maybe you should tell us what you’re trying to do. Are you installing and need to work with wp-config.php? Are you trying to edit the theme? Or is it a plugin you’re asking about?

And how do you propose to edit whatever it is? From within the wordpress admin? or locally?

    (@coryc93)

*sigh* Read ALL my posts. I’m installing wordpress as the main focus of my site. But in the FTP of my site i have no folders, So tehre is no place to upload the files. Then if i upload all the wordpress files into no folder, i have nothing to set the directory in the wp-cofig file.
