Loop when verifying site ownership

    When I am setting up site kit, I am taken to the page that shows the three steps. On the first one, “Verify site ownership”, I click on proceed and I am taken to the same page again. I have tried what is described in the documentation (https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/documentation/fix-common-issues) but nothing worked.

    However, when I link my website with my school account, it works just fine. Any ideas?

    @hugomilan Sorry to hear you’re encountering issues during setup. Are you able to share your Site Health information and we can see if there is anything we notice from our side which may be impacting setup?

    @hugomilan Can you follow the steps below and inform me if you are able to proceed with setup?
    1. Temporarily switch your “WordPress Address (URL)” and “Site Address (URL)” from https://.. to http://.. in your WordPress General Settings configuration. This https > http change should trigger a change in the Site Kit authentication service as you’re already connected
    2. Logout of your WordPress admin dashboard
    3. Log back in and then undo the changes you made (reverting back to the full address with https
    4. Reset Site Kit and attempt setup once more

    Please let me know if that works for you. If not can you attempt to setup Site Kit with JetPack temporarily deactivated if you’ve used the Search Console verification feature?

    @jamesosborne still the same. I keep looping in the “Verify site ownership.” If I use another google account, I can verify my ownership.

    @jamesosborne it worked! It was something related to Google Search Console. I logged in into my Google Search Console and then Site Kit could verify my ownership.

    @hugomilan Great, thanks for the update. Out of curiosity did you make any changes from within your Search Console account before it started to work?

    @jamesosborne I just logged in and I got the messaged that my ownership was verified. I might have tried setting up Search Console before.
